In the universe of DCU and DC Comics, Belle Reve serves as a maximum-security facility where the most notorious criminals, supervillains, and metahumans are kept in check. Situated within the Louisiana bayou, this prison is equipped with specialized cells designed for containing metahumans who pose a threat to humanity.
In various notable DC productions, Belle Reve has taken center stage, serving as both the training ground and headquarters for Task Force X, also known as the Suicide Squad. Interestingly, even in its first animated series, Creature Commandos, Belle Reve was given a significant role, functioning as the residence of Task Force M.
Every DCU Villain Contained in Belle Reve
As a die-hard DC Universe fan, I couldn’t help but notice the intriguing conclusion of “Creature Commandos” and the final chapter of “Superman”. It seems clear that some of the most infamous DCU supervillains have been secured within the walls of the metahuman prison.
Lex Luthor
In the final moments of “Superman,” I find myself reflecting on Belle Reve, the notorious prison that has now become Lex Luthor’s new home. His audacious actions against Superman, the Kryptonian, and his reckless creation of a pocket universe, nearly leading to Metropolis’ destruction, have earned him this infamous residence.
Even though confined within a maximum-security institution, Lex remains a formidable and sly character due to his ability to influence other inmates and prison staff, posing a possible early release threat.
In actuality, hints about Lex’s return are being subtly introduced in Season 2 of “Peacemaker,” as it has been announced that two of his most dedicated henchmen, Otis and Sydney, will join the cast of the mature-rated series airing on HBO Max.
The Bride
As a die-hard fan of Creature Commandos, I can tell you that one key character within this elite team is none other than The Bride herself. For years, the relentless Eric Frankenstein has been hot on her heels, possibly explaining why she found herself incarcerated in Belle Reve – a move perhaps aimed at escaping his decades-long fixation on her. And let’s not forget her centuries-old history of violence that precedes this tale.
In the comic book series, “Creature Commandos”, it was The Bride who grabbed the limelight with her straight-forward demeanor and readiness to take lives. Notably, she dealt the final blow against the main antagonist, Princess Ilana Rostovic (for more details on the impressive voice cast of “Creature Commandos”).
GI Robot
In a modern setting, the GI Robot – part of the Creature Commandos team – finds himself imprisoned at Belle Reve, having completed his sentence for defending America during World War II. His original programming was to eliminate Nazis, a mission he continues in his current operations, embodying this objective.
The individual was transferred to Belle Reve following an incident where he fatally shot 32 civilians, among whom was his previous friend and accomplice, Sam Fitzgibbon. This action was prompted by his uncovering of their membership in a neo-Nazi group. Currently, he is segregated within the prison’s section for non-human entities.
Weasel
In James Gunn’s movie “The Suicide Squad,” Weasel initially appeared, later joining Task Force M in the HBO Max series “Creature Commandos.” This character is a metahuman with a mutated animalistic form, who was previously detained due to accusations of murdering 27 children. Consequently, he found himself imprisoned at Belle Reve.
Nevertheless, it was established that Creature Commandos was innocent as he merely aimed to shield the children. Regrettably, despite his efforts, he could not prevent their demise, and he ended up being held accountable for their fatalities.
King Shark
In simpler terms, King Shark – also known as Nanaue – is part of an elite team called Task Force X, or The Suicide Squad. Despite breaking free during the 2021 movie, they have been confined to Belle Reve. It’s likely that he was recaptured because of his wild behavior and tendency to consume humans, which are characteristics typical of a beast.
Initially assigned to the Suicide Squad, it turned out in the final act that he had actually been enlisted for The Bride’s Creature Commandos. Known for his role as this character, Steve Agee will also reappear in the upcoming season of Peacemaker.
Doctor Phosphorous

In the comic book universe of DC, Hetepkheti Tefnakhte, formerly known as Khalis, was previously an adversary of Doctor Fate. He had possession of the Amulet of Anubis, a powerful artifact that enhanced his otherworldly powers.
Circe
In the world of ‘Creature Commandos’, Circe stands as a formidable adversary, one better avoided than confronted head-on. As an Amazonian sorceress, she often crossed swords with Wonder Woman, demonstrating her magical prowess.
In the DC Universe, a chilling sequence involved Circe witnessing a dismal future where the majority, if not all, of the DCU’s superheroes (including David Corenswet’s Superman) had perished following an invasion by Pokolistan. As a result, she was imprisoned in Belle Reve for her confrontations with the Royal Family of Pokolistan.
Nosferata
In a different phrasing, we can say: Nina Mazursky’s fellow team member in Season 1, Nosferata, is a vampire who sometimes picked on Nina before she joined the team. Later, because of her vampiric nature, there were suspicions about her actions that led to her being moved to Belle Reve, possibly for illicit purposes.
Orca
In the realm of DC Comics, Dr. Grace Balin, also known as Orca, is one of the dangerous adversaries held within Belle Reve. This character possesses extraordinary strength and agility thanks to a transformation that turned her into a humanoid entity.
Chemo
Chemotherapy is like a menacing supervillain made up of harmful substances. Being essentially a mobile container of poison, Chemotherapy can be difficult to fight against because of its radioactive nature.
It’s yet unclear how Chemo wound up at Belle Reve, but there’s a chance one of the DC Universe’s well-known heroes might have been the one who apprehended him.
Egg Fu
Chang Tzu, also known as Egg Fu, is currently detained at the Belle Reve prison. In the world of DC Comics, he was a formidable adversary to Wonder Woman and was famed for his cunning intellect, making him a villain in their stories.
Bug-Eyed Bandit
The character known as Bug-Eyed Bandit frequently appears within the confines of Belle Reve. Typically at odds with The Atom, this villain utilizes mechanical insects not only for controlling pesky bugs but also for launching attacks against his adversaries.
In the universe known as the Arrowverse, a depiction of the Bug-Eyed Bandit character made an appearance on the TV show “The Flash”. This role was skillfully played by Emily Kinney, who is recognized for her work in the series “The Walking Dead”.
Hyena
