DC Studios Just Introduced Its First Original Character With Superpowers

DC Studios has done something new by creating a superhero who debuted outside of the traditional DC Comics universe. While it’s not unheard of – Marvel has several popular characters who first appeared in their movies and TV shows before being featured in comics – DC Studios is now planning to do the same, building new heroes specifically for its film and television universe.

I’m so excited for Peacemaker Season 2! It’s amazing to see Michael Rooker join the cast as Red St. Wild. It’s wild to think this is actually his *fourth* role in the DCU – after playing Savant in The Suicide Squad, Sam Fitzgibbon in Creature Commandos, and even Superman Robot #1 in Superman! And knowing his history with James Gunn, going all the way back to Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy, it just feels right. What’s really cool is that this villain, Red St. Wild, is completely original – he doesn’t come from any existing comics or stories. It’s a fresh take, and I can’t wait to see what Rooker does with the role!

In Season 2, Episode 4 of *Peacemaker*, Red St. Wild demonstrates his powers for the first time while trying to find and kill Peacemaker’s eagle, Eagly. After being hit in the head, he performs a ritual with his blood in the woods, which causes blue flames to appear. This allows him to use a kind of spiritual or magical ability to locate Eagly, seeing the eagle clearly in his mind and tracking its precise location.

This is the first instance of DC Studios creating a brand-new character – one not found in the original comics – and giving them superpowers. Although the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU) did something similar with the villains in the movie *Shazam! Fury of the Gods*, James Gunn’s new DC Universe established Fred Rooker’s Red St. Wild as the first villain created specifically for the franchise with superpowers.

Season 2 of *Peacemaker* is the second TV series launching James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe, and the first to appear on HBO Max. The show, starring John Cena, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, and Freddie Stroma, follows Peacemaker as he tries to become a true hero, navigating different realities and escaping someone seeking revenge. New episodes of *Peacemaker* Season 2 premiere on HBO Max on Thursdays at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.

What To Expect From Michael Rooker’s Original DCU Character

Michael Rooker’s character, Red St. Wild, is set to be a key villain in *Peacemaker* Season 2, promising plenty of standout scenes. Because Red St. Wild isn’t based on an existing comic book character, Rooker and James Gunn have the freedom to develop the role in any direction they choose.

Rick Flag Sr. is determined to eliminate Peacemaker, and a skilled hunter named Red will play a crucial role in that effort. Red quickly proves to be a formidable opponent – in just two episodes, we see his intense dedication while tracking Eagly and how nearly successful he was at defeating Peacemaker’s close companion.

At the end of the last episode, he found out where Eagly was hiding, so he’ll probably go after him right away in the next one.

James Gunn compares Red to Lex Luthor, suggesting he’ll be a formidable opponent. Even after John Economos managed to subdue him using size and stealth, Red isn’t likely to stay down for long. Eagly, bringing both intelligence and intense anger to the fight, will face a difficult challenge trying to defend against Red’s next move.
