The Flash is getting a major boost! After being sidelined for some time, a fan-favorite member of the Flash Family is set to return. Barry Allen, known as the fastest man alive, hasn’t been actively fighting crime recently. His last appearance as the Flash was in the story arc Absolute Power, where he was the final speedster remaining. Unfortunately, while trying to save the world from Amanda Waller, Barry exhausted himself by pushing his powers too far.
Okay, let’s be real – the world’s moved on since Barry Allen disappeared. Wally West is doing great as the Flash, and the whole Flash family is functioning perfectly well. But honestly, seeing Barry on the bench feels…off. I mean, they really built him up as the Flash for a long time, so it’s strange he’s just…gone. However, a recent story arc might have hinted at a really interesting, and unexpected, way for Barry to come back into the hero game.
Barry Allen Becomes a Green Lantern Flash (and It’s Awesome)

In Green Lantern #31, writer Jeremy Adams, artist Romulo Fajardo, Jr., and letterer Dave Sharpe tell the story of Barry Allen being placed in witness protection to testify against mob boss Anthony Bordello. Despite having police guards, Barry quickly realizes something isn’t right – and his suspicions are confirmed when he discovers the officers are corrupt. He escapes and contacts Green Lantern for help, who rescues him and gets him to safety. Meanwhile, Bordello hires a powerful metahuman named Bruto to eliminate Barry.
Green Lantern enters Barry’s friend’s house to collect evidence needed to arrest Bordello, while Barry keeps watch. However, they’re ambushed by Bruto, a remarkably strong and tough opponent who poses a serious threat to Barry. Although they manage to escape, Bruto quickly gives chase, proving to be far more persistent than anticipated. Green Lantern works to protect both himself and Barry, but they’re running out of time to reach the courthouse. Luckily, Barry comes up with a plan.
Barry realizes that Green Lantern’s power constructs involve principles like speed and momentum, which he understands well as the Flash. Using this knowledge, Green Lantern creates a Flash suit for Barry, restoring his super speed. While the suit isn’t perfect – it’s not as easy to control as his own – Barry is grateful to be fast again. Ultimately, he’s able to reach the trial and deliver the crucial testimony that finally convicts the mob boss.
Becoming A Lantern is the Best Path Forward for Barry Allen

It was great to see Barry Allen back as the Flash! I’ve always been a fan, and I never thought he should have been sidelined. It’s true that he can feel a little unnecessary when compared to Wally West, who’s so popular and arguably more exciting. However, this recent storyline did a fantastic job of giving Barry a fresh direction. Instead of just being another Flash, why not make him a Flash with a different kind of Lantern power – one that long-time fans might remember?
I’ve always loved seeing Barry Allen as a Blue Lantern! During Blackest Night, his incredible hope earned him the blue power ring, and it was such a fantastic look. Now that all the Lantern Corps are active again, especially the Blue Lanterns, I think it’s the perfect time to bring that back. This recent issue really showed how well Lantern powers can replicate the Flash’s speed, and honestly, it would give Barry a unique edge, especially compared to someone like Wally. It might seem a little unexpected, but I’m all for anything that gets Barry back in the hero game and lets him shine!
I don’t understand why Barry is being kept on the sidelines. He’s a fantastic hero, and it would be really cool to see a storyline where he’s a Blue Lantern Flash. This recent issue proved there’s a lot of potential in exploring that kind of development for his character. It makes you wonder how he’d function as a speedster without the Speed Force, and what new abilities he might discover. I’m hoping this leads to a combination of Lantern and Flash powers, because a talented creative team could really do something special with that idea.
