DCEU Star Says He’s Heard His Character Returns In The Next Superman Movie

The DC Extended Universe had its ups and downs, with many of its movies not performing well with critics or at the box office. However, fans still enjoyed certain characters and storylines. James Gunn and Peter Safran, now leading the new DC Universe, are taking note of what worked before and are bringing some of those ideas back. We’ve already seen this with a second season of Peacemaker and elements of The Suicide Squad still being considered part of the official story. The team behind Blue Beetle is also continuing that character’s story in animated form. Now, it looks like another popular character from the DCEU might be making a comeback surprisingly soon.

So, I was reading an interview with Pierce Brosnan in GQ, and he dropped some interesting news about his role as Doctor Fate in Black Adam. Apparently, there was talk of Doctor Fate getting his own spin-off show or movie! He also mentioned hearing that Doctor Fate might show up in the next Superman film. When asked if he’d be up for reprising the role, he said he really loved playing the character and exploring his philosophical side, and he’d absolutely be open to coming back. As a fan, I’m hoping that happens!

Pierce Brosnan hasn’t said much about his version of Doctor Fate, but it seems someone may have talked to him about the character’s future. Even more surprising is the possibility that Doctor Fate could appear in the upcoming Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow. That film will feature Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult) as a hero helping to protect Earth from Brainiac. Introducing magic to a Superman story is a really unexpected twist.

Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate Was the Best Thing Coming Out of Black Adam

Released in 2022, Black Adam aimed to reshape the power dynamics within the DC Extended Universe. Dwayne Johnson, the film’s star, hoped it would launch a trilogy culminating in a showdown with Henry Cavill’s Superman. However, the movie received negative reviews and earned only $393 million globally, effectively sealing the fate of the already-troubled DCEU. Critics found the storyline weak and the film’s attempt to blend an antihero with typical superhero expectations unsuccessful. For many, Black Adam symbolized the creative decline of a film universe that had lost its focus.

Despite generally negative reviews for Black Adam, the Justice Society of America was almost universally praised. The team – Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan) – captured the classic feel of the comic books and was a standout part of the film. Brosnan’s performance as Doctor Fate, specifically, received a lot of attention. He brought a sense of seriousness, wisdom, and subtle charisma to the role, which helped balance the film’s more chaotic scenes. His performance added emotional weight, making Doctor Fate’s sacrifice one of the most memorable parts of the movie. Although Black Adam isn’t considered official DC Universe canon, fans would likely enjoy seeing Brosnan reprise the character in a future project.

Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
