Good news for comic fans! At the ComicsPRO conference, DC Comics revealed plans for its upcoming “Next Level” initiative, including exciting updates about the “Absolute Universe.” This summer will see the release of new “Absolute” editions like Absolute Green Arrow and Absolute Catwoman, and DC also announced a big crossover event bringing together heroes from across the entire Absolute line. While details are still scarce, DC promises the crossover will happen within just a few months.
DC’s Absolute Heroes are Coming Together, But Why?
One of the most interesting things about the Absolute Universe is the imbalance between its heroes and villains. Often, the villains have more power, resources, and a deeper history than those fighting for good. Despite being at a disadvantage, heroes like Absolute Wonder Woman and Batman consistently manage to prevail. This leads to a crucial question: what kind of danger would be significant enough to compel all the Absolute Universe heroes to unite as a team?
We’ve confirmed that the powerful, corrupt group controlling things – a kind of criminal Justice League – is still operating and readily combines its wealth and influence. What’s more, we’ve only glimpsed a small part of the overall evil present in this world. As the Absolute Joker showed us, Darkseid’s impact has poisoned everything, and threats like the White Martian, revealed in Absolute Martian Manhunter, are nearly impossible to fight using conventional methods. This is all before even considering the possibility of a completely new enemy emerging, such as an Absolute Amazo or Starro.
It would take a truly massive threat to unite the Absolute Universe’s heroes, but that might actually be a good thing. We’ve already seen how much stronger heroes like Wonder Woman and Batman are when they team up. Currently, everyone is working separately, but if they can overcome their differences and face this new danger together, they could achieve incredible things. This event has the potential to usher in a new era of hope and success for the Absolute Universe.
