Princess Shark needs Supergirl’s assistance, but because she needs help underwater, she uses the kryptonite to lure Supergirl to her. She wasn’t sure Supergirl would agree to help otherwise. This sets off an adventure that ultimately leads to a sweet moment when Supergirl invites Princess Shark to Thanksgiving dinner with the Danvers family. By the time they arrive, Kara is back to her normal self, showing the crystal’s effects are only temporary and don’t cause any lasting harm. The kryptonite also doesn’t weaken Supergirl’s powers, making it relatively harmless aside from the initial mermaid transformation.

As a film enthusiast, I found this take on kryptonite really intriguing. It’s not the usual stuff – it’s actually created by a sea witch! That means it doesn’t directly hurt Supergirl, or any Kryptonian for that matter. But here’s the clever part: this ‘turquoise kryptonite’ turns her into a mermaid, giving her gills that require her to be underwater to breathe. So, if someone used this stuff strategically – say, trapped a Kryptonian where they couldn’t reach water, or combined it with another type of kryptonite that weakened them – it could be seriously dangerous. Basically, it could suffocate them by turning them into a mermaid without access to the ocean. It’s a really cool, thought-out weakness, and a nice change of pace from the standard kryptonite effects.

Will We Ever See Enchanted Turquoise Kryptonite Again?

It’s currently uncertain whether we’ll see Enchanted Turquoise Kryptonite again, and it probably won’t be a significant element in future stories. DC Comics has introduced many different types of kryptonite over time, but most of them appear only once or are rarely used. Typically, stories focus on the well-known green, red, and black varieties, while others like pink or red-gold are used far less often.

Recently, kryptonite has become a major element in Superman comics. Two current series, Superman Unlimited and Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum, both feature it prominently. Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum has been especially noteworthy, introducing several new types of kryptonite with strange and unpredictable effects on Superman and other Kryptonians. One example is a dangerous purple variant that affected Superman’s memory and sense of time, putting him at a serious disadvantage and potentially having large repercussions for the entire DC Universe, given how important timing is to Superman’s actions.
