Recent fan art imagines DC Comics’ latest version of the Joker brought to life in the DC Universe, and the result is a truly frightening villain. Since late 2024, DC has been telling stories in an alternate reality called the Absolute Universe, created by Darkseid to empower villains and put heroes at a disadvantage. This new universe transforms familiar characters in unexpected ways, making the Joker arguably more terrifying than ever before.
Although James Gunn and Peter Safran haven’t officially brought the Joker into their new DC Universe, hints of the character have appeared in promotional images from the upcoming Clayface movie, which is set in Gotham. While the Joker’s arrival seems inevitable, DC Studios might surprise fans by introducing the ‘Absolute Joker’ – a particularly terrifying version of the villain. Artist @bosslogic shared a concept poster on Instagram showing this monstrous form, suggesting a hidden, demonic side to the classic character.
Why Absolute Joker Would Be Perfect for the DCU

In this alternate universe, the Joker isn’t a criminal mastermind, but a hugely wealthy businessman – one of the thirty richest people on Earth – who secretly commits murders. Unlike the Joker most people know, he never laughs. But the truly disturbing part is that he’s barely human; beneath his normal appearance, he’s horribly deformed with pale skin, green veins, and rows of sharp teeth. To maintain his disguise, he requires regular blood transfusions from babies.
James Gunn has consistently said he wants the characters in the new DC Universe to be fresh and unique, and we’re already seeing that with his take on Superman. The Joker needs the same treatment. Instead of just recreating past versions – like those played by Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, Jared Leto, or Joaquin Phoenix – the DCU needs to offer something truly original. Introducing the ‘Absolute Joker’ in a live-action horror project – perhaps a series or movie – would be an ideal way to do that.
This new take on the Joker would be unlike anything we’ve seen before, completely reshaping our understanding of the character. DC Studios is already exploring darker themes with projects like Clayface and Swamp Thing, and giving Absolute Joker his own horrifying story would further distinguish him from all previous live-action versions. It would be amazing to see this truly twisted side of the villain come to life.
