As a comic book movie critic, I’m always keeping an eye on the latest DC releases, and this week was packed! We’re already halfway through February’s titles, which is a little scary when you think about how quickly things are moving from the ‘All In’ era to ‘DC Next Level’. While I’m excited for what’s coming, I think it’s important to pause and appreciate the big moments we’ve gotten this week with our favorite heroes and villains before we jump ahead. It’s been a strong month so far!
This week brought some exciting developments in the DC universe! Supergirl delivered another festive special, this time with a unique take on Valentine’s Day and a villain fixated on love. The intense tournament in DC K.O. also reached a surprising climax, with a winner no one expected. We’re already seeing the consequences of the tournament for characters like Aquaman and Green Lantern Guy Gardner. If you missed any of the action, here’s a rundown of the biggest DC highlights from the past week.
5. Supergirl Faces Off with a Kryptonian Love Entity

In issue #10 of Supergirl, Kara finally gets to know the attractive man she’s been interested in. However, their date takes an unexpected turn when Kara discovers his earring is a piece of pink kryptonite. This shard isn’t just dangerous; it contains the remnants of Nela-Nar, a Kryptonian woman determined to continue the work of her planet’s dating system, Matricomp. Luckily, Supergirl manages to separate and contain Nela-Nar, preventing Kara from falling in love against her will.
4. Superman’s Rival Comes Closer to Gaining Cosmic Godhood

The sixth issue of Adventures of Superman: Book of El marks the story’s halfway point. Superman is battling to protect his family while a new villain, Kryl-Ux, pursues a dangerous goal. Having already taken one of Olgrun’s powerful God-Aspects, Kryl-Ux travels into space to claim another – the Madness of Olgrun. With one God-Aspect, Kryl-Ux became incredibly powerful, and he’s now the first being in the DC Universe to absorb two. Only five God-Aspects remain, and as Kryl-Ux gains strength, the possibility of him collecting them all is becoming increasingly alarming.
3. Guy Gardner Gets New Power and Mission

Most of Green Lantern Corps #13 centers on an invasion of Oa, but the issue ends with a brief scene following the events of DC K.O. Guy Gardner just wants some peace when he returns to his room, but he’s immediately flooded with visions of the beings representing the different emotions. These beings now appear as babies, and Ion, the being of willpower, asks Guy to use his newfound ability, ‘the Sight,’ to locate them. It’s unclear how powerful Guy’s ‘Sight’ is or why these entities are now in baby form, but it sets up an intriguing mystery for the next story arc.
2. Aquaman Returns to the Blue and is De-Aged

As a huge DC fan, I was really shocked by the latest Aquaman issue! It reminded me a bit of what happened with Green Lantern Corps, in that it ties into the events of DC K.O. Basically, Mera’s mom, Lolanna, pulls Arthur out of the tournament under the guise of still believing he’s her daughter, Andrina. But it’s all a ruse – she immediately kills him and steals his powers as the avatar of the Blue! It’s a pretty brutal scene – Aquaman literally dissolves into water. However, there’s a twist! The epilogue shows that, just like the ocean, death isn’t necessarily the end. We see a young boy wash ashore, and it’s heavily implied he’s the reborn Aquaman, completely transformed. It’s a wild turn of events!
1. The End of the DC K.O. Tournament

The second-to-last issue of DC K.O. was packed with exciting and unexpected events! We saw Joker switch sides to help Darkseid, and a battle between classic versions of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman against their darker, ‘Absolute’ selves. Despite all the chaos, the tournament ended with Lex Luthor predictably betraying Superman, making him the ultimate winner. Now, as the victor, Lex Luthor has become King Omega and gained incredible cosmic power rivaling Darkseid’s. With one issue remaining, I’m eager to see how the story concludes!
