Darkseid’s casting in the DCU has received a surprising update.
The upcoming animated series, Mister Miracle, will feature the villain Darkseid. This show is part of the new DC Universe being developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Based on the critically acclaimed comic book by Tom King and Mitch Gerads, Tom King is also leading the show as its showrunner.
What did Tom King say about the DCU’s Darkseid casting?
On the podcast The Brave and the Boys, Tom King talked about finding actors for his upcoming Mister Miracle series. While he didn’t mention any names, he hinted that the choice for Darkseid might be unexpected.
Some people perfectly captured the characters – people were saying, ‘That’s exactly Scott, that’s exactly Barta!’ Others were a bit different than expected, but still clearly Darkseid. I really love this book, and I was determined to get it just right, so we went through a lot of versions, from absolutely perfect to even better than I initially imagined.
It’s still unclear how prominently Darkseid, one of DC Comics’ most powerful villains, will appear in the new DC Universe (DCU) after the Mister Miracle series. However, James Gunn has indicated, according to IGN, that he doesn’t currently plan to use Darkseid as the main villain of the DCU.
He explained that both Zack Snyder’s approach and the character of Thanos in the Marvel movies were major influences.
There’s no release date yet for the upcoming Mister Miracle series. The show follows Scott Free, the world-famous escape artist known as Mister Miracle. He’s considered the best there ever was, but now he faces his biggest challenge: escaping death itself. Scott and his wife, Big Barda, have created a seemingly perfect life on Earth, but everything is falling apart. A war is brewing between their home worlds, and Scott’s adoptive father, the villain Darkseid, appears to have obtained the Anti-Life Equation – a weapon that would give him complete control of the universe.
