2023 marked the long-awaited release of Dead Island 2, nearly nine years after its initial announcement. Since then, it has garnered quite a following, with Dambuster Studios boasting over 20 million players in a recent tweet – an increase from the previously announced 10 million+ back in October 2024.
Furthermore, it hinted at “the next epidemic,” acknowledged “the studio is already submerged in work,” and suggested “The adventure is still ongoing.” Included with this update is an illustration of Jacob, one of the playable characters, carrying a suitcase adorned with stickers for Ireland, LA, and various other locations. When probed about where the next outbreak would occur, Dambuster replied, “I’m not sure, but isn’t that a lovely image we added to our post?
No matter where you are, it’s conceivable that the upcoming game, perhaps named “Dead Island 3”, will offer expanded, explorable landscapes for combat. It appears that Jacob might reappear, but there could also be fresh characters joining the cast.
The future will unfold, so keep an eye on it. Dead Island 2 is now playable on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. You can read our review for it. The latest significant update introduced a survival mode called Neighborhood Watch, which you can discover more about by clicking here.
