As a long-time Marvel fan with a particular affinity for the antics of Deadpool and the grit of Wolverine, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard the news that these two iconic characters would finally share the screen in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Having grown up watching Wesley Snipes as the original Blade and Jennifer Garner kick butt as Elektra, it was an absolute treat to see them return to their respective roles.
The long-awaited film collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine, titled “Deadpool & Wolverine,” is now showing in cinemas. Marvel enthusiasts can finally put an end to years of guessing who would make an appearance. Previously confirmed actors like Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Aaron Stanford as Pyro were expected. In the movie’s final week, Marvel Studios unveiled some exciting casting news, such as Dafne Keen portraying Laura/X-23. However, there were still many unexpected cameos in store for viewers. If you haven’t seen “Deadpool & Wolverine” yet and wish to avoid spoilers, be warned – here is a comprehensive list of the movie’s most notable guest appearances.
If your interest is piqued, but you don’t want to be given too much information and risk being spoiled, let me begin by mentioning a brief cameo from the trailers of “Deadpool & Wolverine” that has already been revealed…
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” you may encounter Chris Hemsworth’s Thor on a TV screen at the TVA. However, this appearance is just archival footage from “Thor: The Dark World.” During this footage, Thor can be seen crying and holding Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), who has replaced Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Although this cameo isn’t particularly groundbreaking, it’s an enjoyable moment to witness Deadpool and Thor engaging on the big screen. While the scene didn’t have major consequences in the movie, it gave a hint of potential future collaborations between these Marvel characters. Could Deadpool and Thor join forces in “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” (previously known as “Avengers 5”)?
Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan
After giving you a taste of what’s to come without revealing too much, we’re excited to reveal the first major twist in the film: Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) makes an unexpected appearance. In one of the movie’s early scenes, Deadpool pays a visit to Happy’s office, hoping to join the Avengers team. This encounter occurs right before Thanos’ snap and is filled with delightful easter eggs. Keep an eye out for various Iron Man helmets, the preliminary design of Captain America’s shield, and even the famous photo of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Tom Holland as an unseen Peter Parker. Marvel Studios likely limited the usage of Holland due to contractual obligations. Throughout the scene, there’s a humorous reference to how Downey Jr. no longer does cameos, so don’t get your hopes up for his name popping up anywhere else.
Hulk
In the comic “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Deadpool embarks on a journey through various universes in search of a powerful ally, specifically a worthy Wolverine, to aid him in saving his own universe. During this quest, he encounters one rendition of the mutant engaged in battle with the Hulk. This brief appearance holds significance as it references “The Incredible Hulk” #181 from 1974, which marked Wolverine’s debut. Unfortunately for Deadpool, this particular Wolverine was too preoccupied with holding off the Hulk to offer assistance.
Henry Cavill as Wolverine
As a long-time fan of both Henry Cavill and the X-Men universe, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard the news that Cavill had made his Marvel debut as a Variant in “Deadpool 3”! With rumors swirling around for years about who would take on the mantle of Wolverine after Hugh Jackman’s departure, names like Cavill, Daniel Radcliffe, and Taron Edgerton have been frequently brought up.
Chris Evans as Johnny Storm
As a long-time fan of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the Fantastic Four, I was absolutely thrilled when I heard that Chris Evans was reprising his role as Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch, in the latest MCU project. While I’ve grown accustomed to seeing him as the iconic Captain America, there was something nostalgic and exciting about witnessing him once again embody the flamboyant and fiery character he first brought to life over a decade ago.
Sabretooth and Toad
In the latest X-Men film from 2000, titled “The Void,” Sabretooth (Tyler Mane) and Toad (Ray Park), Magneto’s notorious henchmen, return to the scene. They are now working under the command of Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin). The duo had previously been confirmed for the movie, but it was still exciting to witness their comeback after an absence of almost 25 years. Sadly, Ian McKellen’s portrayal of Magneto was absent from this production. Regrettably, Cassandra Nova is shown to have eliminated at least one depiction of the character.
Lady Deathstrike and Azazel
In The Void, Cassandra Nova was joined by more malevolent X-Men adversaries from the past. Among them were Lady Deathstirke (Kelly Hu), last seen in “X2,” and Azazel (Jason Flemyng) from “X-Men: First Class.” These appearances were teased in trailers, yet watching them on the big screen once again brought excitement. These formidable antagonists didn’t disappoint with their impressive display of power in the new film.
Juggernaut
As a longtime fan of the X-Men universe, I can’t help but be intrigued by the various interpretations of the iconic character, Juggernaut. Having witnessed Vinnie Jones bring him to life in “X-Men: The Last Stand,” and Ryan Reynolds giving voice to the role in “Deadpool 2,” I must admit that I was curious to see who would don the helmet next.
Aaron Stanford as Pyro
I was thrilled to find out earlier this year that I’d be slipping back into the Pyro suit once again for X-Men: The New Mutants or however they’re calling it now. It’s been a long time since I last played this fiery character in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand. And let me tell you, this time around, Pyro’s role is massive! I’m right-hand man to the formidable Cassandra Nova. I can hardly contain my excitement as I prepare to step back into the flame-filled boots and embrace the heat of the action once more.
Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15
It was exciting to have Wunmi Mosakus’s character Hunter B-15 featured prominently in “Loki.” I was looking forward to seeing her again in the “Deadpool & Wolverine” TVA storyline. However, Marvel Studios unfortunately spoiled her cameo with a preview during the weekend, taking away some of the surprise for viewers. Regardless, it was enjoyable to witness her flirting with Peter (Rob Delaney), a classic Deadpool character.
Jennifer Garner as Elektra
Last year, Marvel enthusiasts were taken aback when it was revealed that Jennifer Garner would once again assume the character of Elektra. Garner initially portrayed this part in “Daredevil” (2003), then revisited it in a solo film titled “Elektra” (2005). Despite less-than-stellar reviews for her standalone project, with only 11% approval from critics and 29% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, Garner’s performance left a lasting impression. The anticipation of witnessing her back in action was palpable. An amusing reference to her real-life divorce from Ben Affleck (who played Daredevil) was also incorporated into her entrance in The Void. Although we may not see Affleck appear in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” there are still significant surprises on the horizon.
Wesley Snipes as Blade
In an unexpected turn of events, fans were shocked when Wesley Snipes resurfaced as Blade in “Deadpool & Wolverine” within the MCU’s universe. Fans had hoped Mahershala Ali would continue the role, but Snipes playfully quipped there can only be one Blade. He even brought back a famous line from his initial film. Moreover, they shared a funny anecdote about their strained relationship during the filming of “Blade: Trinity.” We’re excited to discover the details behind this surprising on-screen reunion.
Channing Tatum as Gambit
As a hardcore gamer and Marvel fan, I was absolutely blown away when Channing Tatum made an unexpected appearance as Gambit in the latest Marvel movie. Although many of us knew he was originally cast for the role back when Fox was still in control, we were all disappointed when Disney took over and the project fell apart. Tatum himself has spoken publicly about his frustration with how things turned out, so it was a delight to finally see him bring Gambit to life.
Dafne Keen as Laura/X-23
Dafne Keen recently denied being in “Star Wars: The Acolyte” during press interviews, insisting she wasn’t involved in “Deadpool” or “Wolverine.” However, it was later revealed that the “Logan” actress had been keeping a secret – she was indeed playing Jecki Lon in “The Acolyte.” Marvel Studios chose to unveil this information just a week before the film’s premiere, leaving fans disappointed as they had hoped for a surprise cameo. Nonetheless, it was heartwarming to see Keen join forces with Jackman once more without damaging the legacy of “Logan.”
What Is Deadpool & Wolverine About?
In the Marvel Studios production titled “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Deadpool, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds, and Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, are set to alter the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s history. The film features an ensemble cast including Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, and several returning actors such as Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlyle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapičić as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar. Additionally, Aaron Stanford reprises his role as Pyro from the X-Men film series, while rumors suggest Jennifer Garner’s return as Elektra Natchios.
Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy, and Lauren Shuler Donner are the producers, while Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, George Dewey, Simon Kinberg, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick serve as executive producers for “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The script is written by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, and Shawn Levy.
