It’s been confirmed that Ginny Holder has officially left Death in Paradise.
The show announced the news on its social media pages, thanking the actress for playing Darlene Curtis and wishing her well in the future.
Darlene joined the BBC murder mystery in season 7 as a potential love interest for Dwayne Myers, initially working as the police station’s administrative assistant. However, she quickly proved herself, becoming a fully trained police officer and a key part of the team.
Holder explained that her promotion from trainee to officer was a significant achievement. He also noted she maintains a spirited and energetic personality, which he believes is a valuable asset.
However, in last year’s Christmas episode, she only appeared for a short time on a phone screen, as her character was explained to be away looking after her ill aunt.
The fifteenth season kicks off on Friday, January 30th, and it seems the character won’t be appearing anytime soon. However, the show’s creators have suggested a possible return in the future.

Although the reason for her departure hasn’t been announced, Holder is scheduled to be back for season three of The Capture, suggesting a conflict with filming schedules may have contributed to her leaving.
Just when things seemed to be ending, a new opportunity arose. Season 15 will introduce Sergeant Mattie Fletcher, a character who is sure to bring excitement and change to the show.
Catherine Garton, who plays Mattie, described her character as someone who’s a bit of a free spirit. Mattie often acts on instinct and loves excitement, which occasionally leads to problems.
I have to say, Don Gilet really nailed what makes the dynamic between his character and Mattie so interesting. He described her as incredibly professional, but also pointed out she approaches things in a really unique way. And it works! It actually creates this cool, mutual respect between the two of them, probably because his character isn’t exactly by-the-book either. They meet each other halfway, and it feels genuine.
I often approach work differently than others, and while it can sometimes hurt team progress, I believe it’s important to take risks and push boundaries.
“That’s where you see that professional side of him going, ‘That’s not the way to do things.’
However, there are subtle instances where it seems like the work acknowledges and even appreciates a willingness to take risks and go above and beyond what’s expected.

The series follows Detective Sergeant Naomi Thomas and Officer Sebastian Rose as they mentor new recruit Sergeant Mattie Fletcher. However, secrets from Mattie’s past start to emerge, potentially creating unexpected problems for everyone involved.
It was good to see Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, played by Don Warrington, back on the island, but his return wasn’t exactly a triumphant one. He immediately has to deal with the fallout from being away, and it’s clear his absence has caused some problems he now needs to fix. It sets up an interesting dynamic – he’s back in charge, but not exactly starting from a position of strength.
Following some straightforward advice from her longtime friend Catherine Bordey (Elizabeth Bourgine), Selwyn begins working to regain the island’s trust, though it won’t be an easy task.
Mervin tries to build a relationship with his newfound half-brother, Solomon (Daniel Ward), but soon becomes disappointed to find they don’t have much in common.

Before joining them, she honed her skills as a TV writer at Digital Spy and crafted content for Mumsnet. She’s clearly well-equipped for the job, holding both a degree and a postgraduate diploma in English Studies – which really shines through in her insightful writing.
