Death in Paradise star says Ginny Holder’s exit was a “surprise” – but “these things happen”

Viewers of Death in Paradise are used to favorite characters leaving the show as actors pursue other opportunities, and it’s now been announced that Ginny Holder won’t be appearing in season 15.

Rumors had been circulating that Officer Darlene Curtis might be leaving the show, especially after her limited appearance in last year’s Christmas special – she only appeared on a phone call while supposedly caring for her aunt. The season 15 premiere confirmed she won’t be returning for the time being.

Shaquille Ali-Yebuah, who plays Officer Sebastian Rose, said they were surprised by their co-star’s departure at the TopMob Covers Party 2026. They shared, “We really miss her. She was my first audition partner and someone I relied on a lot during my first season. She’ll be greatly missed.”

Don Warrington, who plays Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, jokingly pointed out that Ali-Yebuah shouldn’t use the word ‘crime.’ Ali-Yebuah quickly clarified, explaining that the woman they were discussing was his partner in uncovering information, and praised her work, saying she would be greatly missed.

Warrington, a longtime acquaintance of Holder, expressed sadness at the news of his passing, saying it’s “always upsetting to lose someone you know.”

But these things happen. It’s the nature of the business.”

Although Darlene is gone, Sergeant Mattie Fletcher, portrayed by Catherine Garton, has now arrived.

Ali-Yebuah described his new co-star as ‘amazing,’ saying Catherine brings a unique and talented energy to the show. He feels she really adds something special to the series.

She’s brought a fresh, vibrant energy to Sainte Marie, coming from her time in Jamaica. She’s tough and willing to do whatever it takes to help the team succeed, which should make her a really compelling character for viewers. I think audiences will quickly connect with her.

Police Officer Sebastian Rose and Detective Sergeant Naomi Thomas (played by Shantol Jackson) are assigned to help Mattie adjust to her new job. However, as secrets from her past start to emerge, her arrival could create unexpected problems, according to the show’s description.
