From time to time, the mysteries investigated in Death in Paradise become connected to the personal lives of the show’s main characters.
Certain cases deeply affect the team, like when Neville was arrested for murder in season 12, and when a murder victim in season 13 was revealed to be a serial abuser—someone who had even harmed an old friend of Catherine’s. These investigations take a particular emotional toll.
And this time, all eyes are on Shaquille Ali-Yebuah’s Officer Sebastian Rose.
TopMob has an exclusive first look at Mervin’s very first dominoes game, and it’s not going well! He’s losing badly and getting upset just as Naomi walks in.
“DS Thomas,” he pleaded, “please tell me we have a new case.” He desperately needed an excuse to leave, explaining, “That was honestly incredibly embarrassing.”
Fortunately, his request was fulfilled when Naomi told him something had arrived: a delivery near St. Vincent’s Church, which is where Seb’s mother goes to worship.
“He was the one that called it in,” she adds as the score swells ominously.
You can watch the clip below.
That development, which was teased in the previous episode, is an “accidental death”.
“Do you think that’s strange?” Mattie asks, seemingly unaware of the dangerous situation they’re in. Seb explains that the church was locked from the inside, so no one could have entered or left.
Being a fan of Death in Paradise, I’m used to things being totally unexpected, but this case is really getting to me. They just discovered a letter Selwyn found, and it’s chilling – it basically says a long-hidden secret is about to be revealed, and it feels like everything is about to change.
Seb says, looking utterly defeated, “It’s like I don’t know anyone anymore.”
“But I never thought you’d be one of them,” he adds, addressing his own mother.
Oh, Seb. Whatever do you mean?
