Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Director Teases New Trailer for Rumored State of Play Next Week

With Nintendo’s recent presentation finished, attention is turning to a possible PlayStation “State of Play” event expected next week. Although PlayStation hasn’t officially announced anything yet, Hideo Kojima, the director of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, has begun sharing intriguing hints on social media.

Hideo Kojima shared a photo of himself editing video, noting it had been eight months since he last did so. This timeframe coincides with the release of the final trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach back in June 2025.

It’s unclear what this means for Kojima Productions in the long run. However, Hideo Kojima seems to be hinting at a new trailer during the upcoming State of Play event. Given his past comments about preferring smaller updates over big expansions, this trailer probably won’t be for downloadable content. Instead, it’s likely he’s preparing to announce a PC version of the game.

Although Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is currently only available on PlayStation 5, the original Death Stranding also launched first on PlayStation 4. Later, it became available on PC and Xbox Series X/S, receiving positive reviews on those platforms.

A report surfaced in November suggesting that a PC version of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is being developed. This came about because the game was briefly listed on the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) website. The listing, which has since been removed, gave the game a “Mature 17+” rating. Interestingly, Sony Interactive Entertainment was listed as the publisher, while the original Death Stranding’s PC and Xbox versions were published by 505 Games.

Hideo Kojima has been discussing Death Stranding 2: On the Beach frequently since its announcement, and recently stated in an interview that he believes it’s his best work. When a fan asked which of his projects he’d consider a masterpiece, Kojima responded that it would be his most recent game, Death Stranding 2.

During the same interview, he was asked what qualities make a game enjoyable for him. He explained that a creator’s passion for their work is the most important factor.

Kojima emphasized the importance of a creator’s passion. He explained that because games are interactive, players should be encouraged to experiment. For example, an item might have an obvious use, but the real fun comes when players discover unexpected ways to use it – and find those methods actually work. This freedom to explore and discover mechanics on their own is what makes a game truly engaging.
