Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is Now Steam Deck Verified Thanks to its Latest Update

Kojima Productions has released a new update for the PC version of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. This update includes bug fixes, performance improvements, and now officially certifies the game as ‘Steam Deck Verified.’ This means Valve has collaborated with Kojima Productions and Nixxes to guarantee a smooth and fully functional experience on the Steam Deck handheld PC, ensuring the game works well with its unique design and capabilities.

The game offers complete controller support with clear button prompts, an on-screen keyboard option, and works seamlessly without compatibility messages. You can even navigate launchers using a controller. It’s optimized for the Steam Deck’s screen resolutions (1280×800 or 1280×720), features sensible default settings, and has clear, readable text. Plus, it works well with Proton, including support for anti-cheat software and other necessary components.

This update not only improves compatibility with the Steam Deck, but also fixes an issue that caused frame rates to dip when using a sniper rifle’s scope. You can find a complete list of changes in the patch notes below.

After being available on PlayStation 5 for several months, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach came to PC last month. The PC version quickly gained popularity, reaching a peak of over 57,000 players at launch. As of today, it continues to be well-played, with over 23,000 concurrent players in the last 24 hours, according to SteamDB.

Kojima Productions hasn’t shared official sales figures for the PC version, but Alinea Analytics estimated around 425,000 copies were sold on Steam in its first month. Adding this to a previous report of 1.4 million sales on PlayStation 5 suggests the game has now sold over 2 million copies in total.

So, after Death Stranding 2: On the Beach came out on PC, the lead level designer, Hiraoki Yoshiike, was talking about how the story moves a lot faster this time around. Apparently, they didn’t focus as much on building up the world as they did in the first game, and that wasn’t an accident. Kojima himself wanted more players to actually finish the game, and he basically told us to make it happen! It was a direct order, which is pretty wild.

He explained that because the first Death Stranding game had already established the world, the development team could concentrate on advancing the story with the sequel, instead of spending time building the world itself.
