Death Stranding 2: On the Beach PC Peaks at Nearly 56,000 Concurrent Steam Players

The sequel to Hideo Kojima’s unique game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, is now available on PC and is off to a strong start. Early numbers show it’s already more popular than the original Death Stranding and its Director’s Cut, with a peak of over 55,000 players on Steam. Plus, the game has an impressive “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam, with 96% of over 700 user reviews being positive.

Compared to that, Death Stranding reached a high of 32,515 players at the same time. The Director’s Cut, released in March 2022, peaked at 22,080 concurrent players. Since these numbers were achieved during the week, Death Stranding 2 could potentially do even better, which is fantastic news for Kojima Productions. You can find more information in our review of the PC version.

PlayStation Studios isn’t performing as strongly on Steam as some of its biggest titles. Games like Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut (77,154 players), God of War (73,529), and Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition (56,557) have seen more players. Newer releases, including Returnal and LEGO Horizon Adventures, haven’t reached the same level of popularity. Because of this, reports suggest Sony might reduce the number of single-player games it releases on PC.

It seems like Ghost of Yōtei was once planned for release, but those plans have been cancelled. Don’t anticipate Saros or Marvel’s Wolverine coming out soon either, although development plans are subject to change.
