Death Stranding IP is Now Fully Owned by Kojima Productions

As a long-time fan who’s walked countless miles across the desolate landscape of Bridges Connecting America in Death Stranding, it’s heartening to see Kojima Productions finally taking full control and ownership of this masterpiece. I remember waiting with bated breath for its release back in 2019, and now, just five years later, we’re talking about a sequel!

5 years ago, Death Stranding was initially released as an exclusive title for PlayStation 4 under Sony’s first-party label. However, since then, the intellectual property has been loosening its ties with PlayStation. Recently, developer Kojima Productions and publisher 505 Games made a surprise announcement that the game is now available on Xbox Series X/S. Furthermore, updates regarding the IP have also surfaced.

Kojima Productions officially confirmed they have complete authority and rights over the Death Stranding intellectual property (IP). This move signifies that Kojima Productions wasn’t solely tied to Sony for the game’s PC release or its upcoming film adaptation – a testament to their openness to collaboration across multiple companies and platforms, which has now been officially acknowledged.

It’ll be intriguing to observe how the release of “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” for PS5 next year affects its long-term platform accessibility. Notably, it’s almost five years since the original “Death Stranding” was launched, implying that there might have been a time-limited exclusivity deal in play.
