Demi Lovato Shares How Jutes Helped Her Overcome “Deep Depression”

Just six months after their California wedding, the singer shared memories of how their relationship began as a friendship.

Demi recently shared with Who What Wear that she and her partner became friends before their relationship turned romantic. She explained that she connected with him during a difficult period while creating her album, Holy Fvck, and felt comfortable opening up to him about what she was going through.

Jordan Lutes, known as Jutes, wasn’t just a great musical partner for Demi’s eighth album – he was also someone she could really open up to and share her most personal thoughts and feelings with.

She described feeling vulnerable and emotionally exposed after finishing treatment and getting sober. With nothing to numb the pain, he supported her through a difficult period of depression, simply by being a friend.

The singer, who started her career with Disney, can’t pinpoint exactly when she fell in love with her husband, but she vividly remembers a strong feeling while recording the seventh song, “Happy Ending,” on her album Holy Fvck.

Honestly, looking back, I had no idea that a simple session would lead to… everything. I mean, falling in love? Marriage? It was the furthest thing from my mind! But that was the moment it clicked, you know? I just… felt safe with him. Completely and utterly safe. It’s like all the walls just came down, and it all started there. I replay it in my head constantly!

You know, as someone who follows relationships closely, I’ve noticed a really interesting trend. For Demi, starting a new romance without knowing exactly where it was going felt good. It was a welcome change from previous relationships where things had quickly gone wrong. She actually found the uncertainty refreshing – a chance to just be without the pressure of a pre-defined path.

Demi explained that she’d been in relationships before where she believed things would eventually work out. However, she realized she hadn’t prioritized her own well-being at those times.

Indeed, the Camp Rock actress was more than happy to exit her version of the La La Land machine. 

She explained that personal growth and self-improvement lead to positive outcomes. “I really had to focus on my own healing,” she said. “And because I did, good things followed. I prepared myself to be happy on my own, which then allowed me to build a fulfilling relationship with someone else.”
