Demi Moore’s Cami Fills ‘Landman’ Season 2’s Jon Hamm Vacancy

Season 2 of Landman is starting to follow a similar path to Season 3 of Tulsa King. After a rocky start with some disappointing episodes, the show is gradually improving. Episode 5 was particularly strong, skillfully providing an answer to a key question: who would replace John Hamm? Hamm played Monty Miller, the CEO of M-Tex Oil, but had to leave the show to focus on his popular dark comedy series, Your Friends & Neighbors.

After Monty passed away, it became unclear who would lead the company. Many thought it would be Tommy, especially since he’d been made President of M-Tex. He was working hard to improve the struggling company with a mix of problem-solving and firm guidance, but Monty’s widow, Cami, is now interfering. She’s willing to do whatever it takes to get results, and her methods could ruin everything. At first, she seemed happy to let Tommy lead, which made sense since she hadn’t been involved in the business before. But things shifted in Episode 5, and now Cami is determined to take control. What caused this change?

Gallino’s Involvement Has Driven a Wedge Between Cami and Tommy

Tommy and Cami seemed like a perfect match, but things are getting tricky with Gallino involved. The disappearance of $400 million from M-Tex is causing big problems, especially now that the insurance company’s lawyers are aggressively investigating. We find out in Episode 5 that the money is tied up in private equity investments, making it difficult to recover without significant financial losses.

During a tense meeting, the lawyers stated the new drilling rig needs to be operational within two months and requested weekly updates to verify the company is on track. They warned that failure to comply could result in a grand jury investigation, which everyone wants to avoid.

During an urgent meeting, Alan suggested Cami consider filing for bankruptcy. While this would mean losing her company, M-Tex, and some income from her mineral rights, it would eliminate her debts. Tommy thought it made sense, but Cami was hesitant because she was also considering an investment offer from Danny Morrell, who is secretly the cartel leader known as “Gallino.”

Tommy understands what kind of person Morrell is, but when he warns Cami, she surprisingly doesn’t worry about the dangers of working with a drug dealer. She gets angry, tells Tommy he shouldn’t call meetings anymore, and insists that all future meetings will be held at her location.

Cami Is the Captain Now

Paramount

Cami’s bold claim of taking control is reminiscent of the iconic scene in Captain Phillips, where a pirate famously announces, “I’m the captain now.” Cami is prepared to become the cartel’s chief money launderer to protect everything Monty created and maintain control of M-Tex. She absolutely refuses to lose the company, or to lose at all, declaring that her husband’s death was the only defeat she’s ever known.

Whether Cami is being realistic or overly optimistic is almost beside the point. This company will either succeed or fail spectacularly. But tough decisions need to be made. Tommy isn’t offering helpful solutions, and as an employee, he doesn’t seem worried about the company’s potential downfall. Cami, however, knows her family’s reputation is connected to M-Tex. She’s willing to take drastic measures – even questionable ones – if it means saving the business. They’ve made a risky deal, but the consequences remain to be seen.

This decision could really change things. Tommy might get upset, and Cami could finally embrace her villainous side – which would be great to see. It would be a waste if they didn’t use Demi Moore’s talent for delivering chilling monologues. Remember how Cami intimidated everyone in the first episode? She’s incredibly bold! It’s clear she believes everyone is entitled to their opinion, but she’ll ultimately do what she wants.

Now that Cami is in charge of M-Tex, just as Monty was before her, Tommy might return to his previous role as a landman. He may realize he isn’t suited for high-level corporate strategy and leave the management decisions to Cami, accepting that he shouldn’t worry about the ethical implications of business practices – simply letting the most successful person lead. However, it’s unlikely he’ll accept this quietly; he’s sure to challenge the situation in some way.
