Demon Slayer Exec Addresses Potential Bigger Budget for Infinity Castle Sequels

The anime film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has been a massive hit worldwide since its release in Japan last summer. A key person involved with the film suggests its success could influence how much money future films receive. This has been a fantastic year for anime in theaters, and Infinity Castle – the first in a planned trilogy – is already one of the highest-grossing films ever in Japan. Currently, it’s also the most successful foreign film in the United States.

Unlike American movie production, where one film’s success heavily impacts future projects, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is being created as a complete three-part series by Aniplex and Ufotable. Many details about how it’s made remain unknown to fans, including how much each film costs. When asked about the budget for the remaining films by The Hollywood Reporter, producer Hikaru Kondo couldn’t share specific numbers.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Producer Talks Movie’s Budget

The budget for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle hasn’t been made public, and the same goes for upcoming films. When questioned about reports of a $20 million USD budget, producer Kondo stated he couldn’t discuss the numbers. The interviewer pointed out that Hollywood sequels often receive larger budgets, and the first Demon Slayer film’s success could easily justify a $100 million budget. Kondo offered some thoughtful insights in response.

“So, I don’t speak English myself, so in addition to having the interpreter here with us, I’m using a translation app on my phone, which is also transcribing everything you say,” Kondo continues. “I want to thank you very much for leaving that statement on the record for me. What you said makes me very, very happy. To that point, I have our distributor and financier from Aniplex right next to me here, so perhaps you can get some additional comments from him.” From there, Yuma Takahashi, an Aniplex producer, added some insight.

What Does This Mean for Demon Slayer’s Sequel?

Takahashi, who oversees business and marketing, acknowledged the budget for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is substantial. While he can’t share official figures at this time, he promises to do his best to be forthcoming. It seems the full budget won’t be publicly disclosed, and even if it is, it likely won’t compare to typical Hollywood film budgets. However, future films could potentially have larger budgets.

Hopefully, the creators are well-paid for their efforts, and have enough time to do a good job. The success of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle came down to quality and careful planning, not just a big budget, and fans are happy to be patient.
