“Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” showcases Shinobu Kocho’s most challenging fight, driven by her desire for revenge for her sister. The story reveals that Kanae, Shinobu’s sister, was fatally wounded by Doma, a powerful demon known as Upper Rank Two, before she could even fight back. This event motivated Shinobu to spend her life studying poisons, determined to find a way to defeat even the strongest demons. Unable to decapitate demons like other Slayers, Shinobu developed a unique method of injecting them with lethal poisons. This unusual ability is what allowed her to become a Hashira, one of the highest-ranking Demon Slayers.
Though not physically strong, she developed a unique fighting style that maximized her incredible speed. Despite her training, she was outmatched by Doma, a centuries-old demon who had harmed many women. She fought bravely and even poisoned him several times, but it wasn’t enough to win. Just before Doma killed her, she spotted Kanao entering the castle and gave her a secret signal. A fan has since figured out what the signal means, and it suggests Kanao is in danger.
Right before she passed away, Shinobu used a hand sign – “suuna” – to Kanao. This sign, in Japanese sign language, means “don’t breathe.”

Before she died, Shinobu used a hand sign to warn her successor, Kanao. A fan on X (@feraf4110) figured out the sign means “don’t breathe,” suggesting Kanao will be at a disadvantage if she tries to use her full breathing power while fighting Doma. This is a major problem because Demon Slayers rely on Breathing Techniques to fight, so being unable to breathe properly will severely limit Kanao’s fighting ability.
Like in the movie *Infinity Castle*, Kanao is staying far away from him, carefully waiting for the right moment to attack while being controlled by the demon. No matter what happens, Kanao is in a dangerous situation. Doma’s powers let him create and control ice in incredibly powerful ways.
Kibutsuji Muzan is so powerful that even skilled Demon Slayers like Shinobu couldn’t withstand his icy attacks. He froze her lungs almost instantly, injuring her severely at the start of their fight. Knowing she was likely to die, Shinobu fought to create an opportunity for the next Demon Slayer, Kanao, to defeat Muzan. The first part of the movie focuses on setting up Kanao’s battle, with the main fight continuing in the second part.
