Everyone knew *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle* would be popular, but many fans underestimated just how successful the first part of the final movie trilogy would be. It quickly became the top movie in North America, earning an impressive $70 million USD in its opening weekend. This new film from Ufotable isn’t just a hit – it’s now the highest-grossing anime movie ever released in Western markets, a feat that’s even more remarkable when you consider the other films it outperformed.
Before *Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle* became the top-grossing anime film in North America, *Pokémon the Movie* held that title. For a while, Ash Ketchum and Pikachu’s battle against Mewtwo was the biggest anime hit in Western theaters, earning $85.7 million. Now, *Infinity Castle* has taken the lead with over $87.4 million. As anime’s popularity continues to grow, it looks like the biggest challenge for Tanjiro and the Demon Slayers will be surpassing their own records with the remaining two films in the trilogy.
Demon Slayer’s Bright Future
I’ve been following the news about the next *Demon Slayer* movies, and Ufotable hasn’t given us any firm release dates yet. Considering how well the *Infinity Castle* arc did, I’m guessing they’re already working hard on the next two films and won’t make us wait too long. If you’ve read the manga, you know there are still some huge moments to come, and it’s going to be intense – not everyone will survive what’s ahead, so be prepared!
The creator of *Demon Slayer*, Koyoharu Gotouge, hasn’t suggested any plans for a sequel or spin-off, despite the manga’s huge popularity. The original ending is fairly definitive, offering closure for most characters. Interestingly, *Jujutsu Kaisen* also had a conclusive ending, but its creator, Gege Akutami, later returned with a sequel set many years afterward.
The Success of Demon Slayer
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has rightfully earned its place at the top, largely due to its stunning animation and expertly crafted fight scenes. While newcomers to the series might find the beginning a bit challenging, the movie’s length is packed with visual moments that make it worth seeing. Ufotable continues to deliver high-quality work, and fans can anticipate even more intense action and emotional moments in the upcoming films.
