Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Suffers a Major Loss Despite 2025’s Groundbreaking Success

Wow, 2025 was absolutely incredible for Demon Slayer! The first movie in the Infinity Castle trilogy just blew everyone away, smashing box office records left and right. It made over 100 billion yen worldwide in just a few months, and it just kept going up! Because the first part became the highest-grossing anime film ever, the anticipation for the next installments is insane. Ufotable hasn’t given us a release date for Part 2 yet, and honestly, it doesn’t seem likely we’ll see it this year. Infinity Castle is the longest story arc in the whole series, and it’s the beginning of the final battle – our heroes get trapped in this never-ending maze created by Nakime, a really powerful demon who uses her Blood Demon Art with a biwa!

Muzan Kibutsuji, the very first demon, has assembled his forces within his castle, aiming to destroy the Demon Slayer Corps. However, our heroes are ready to battle! The Demon Slayer series is well-known for its stunning animation, and the latest movie took it to a whole new level. The incredible work of the Ufotable animators led to both huge box office success and widespread critical praise. While the series was nominated for a Golden Globe Award this year, it unfortunately lost to Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters, a disappointing start to the year.

Demon Slayer Lost The Golden Globe Award to KPop Demon Hunters

At the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, the animated musical fantasy film, KPop Demon Hunters, won Best Animated Motion Picture, beating out Demon Slayer. It also took home the award for Best Original Song and was nominated for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, though it lost in that category to Sinners. Released last June, KPop Demon Hunters quickly became Netflix’s most popular original title, racking up over 500 million views. The film has been incredibly popular worldwide, earning rave reviews from both critics and fans.

Ultimately, Demon Slayer was unlikely to win a Golden Globe. Anime films rarely receive nominations, let alone awards. In 2024, Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron made history as the first – and so far, only – anime film to win Best Animated Feature. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle received only one nomination, while KPop Demon Hunters had three.

Although Demon Slayer didn’t win at the Astra Film Awards, losing to KPop Demon Hunters for Best Animated Feature, it did receive a special ‘Animation is Cinema’ award. Despite this recent setback, Demon Slayer is still in the running for several other awards this year, including nominations at the British Academy Film Awards and the Producers Guild of America Awards.
