The anime film Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle wasn’t just a hit in 2025 – it became the highest-grossing anime movie ever made. After earning hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide, fans have eagerly awaited its release on streaming platforms. While it was already known that Infinity Castle outperformed Mugen Train at the box office, its overall impact on Japan’s total box office revenue was surprisingly significant.
A recent report shows that the movie Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle significantly boosted Japan’s box office revenue in 2025. Profits were 32% higher than in 2024, reaching 206 billion yen – equivalent to $1.34 billion. While this is less than what Hollywood typically earns, it highlights the growing importance of anime to the Japanese economy. Infinity Castle alone earned $255 million in Japan, a remarkable figure. Surprisingly, the film continues to generate revenue in theaters even after its initial release last summer.
Demon Slayer’s Theatrical Future

Even though the first movie in the final Demon Slayer trilogy earned a huge amount of money, Studio Ufotable hasn’t shared any news about the next two films. Rumors suggested they might come out in 2027 and 2029, but Crunchyroll quickly dismissed those dates. Fans are hoping Anime Japan later this year will offer some updates on Tanjiro’s story, as the franchise didn’t reveal much at last year’s Jump Festa.
The manga by Koyoharu Gotouge finished in 2020, so the anime is still catching up. Since the manga ended, the author hasn’t said whether they’ll create any follow-up stories like a sequel or spin-off. Given how conclusive the original ending was, it’s difficult to imagine how a sequel could fit in.
There’s no question that Demon Slayer has become a huge phenomenon in the anime world, and its ending has left a significant void in Weekly Shonen Jump. While series like One Piece are trying to take its place, it’s difficult to picture any new characters capturing the same impact as the Hashira. Anime’s popularity continues to rise both in Japan and North America, and we expect to see other action-packed series achieve similar success in the future.
