The new movie, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, is a huge success in theaters, suggesting it won’t be available to stream for quite some time. Demon Slayer has become one of the most popular anime series in recent years, and it’s truly unique. It was a major hit during the pandemic with the release of Mugen Train – which remains its most successful film – and the newest movie is already one of the biggest releases of the year.
While Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is doing very well in theaters, its continued success means fans will likely have to wait for a streaming release. The film recently opened in China, earning $52.4 million in its first three days, and has now reached a worldwide total of $730 million. Because it’s still playing in many cinemas around the world, a streaming release isn’t expected soon.
Demon Slayer’s Success Means Fans Will Have to Wait Longer
Since its release in Japan this summer, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has been incredibly popular, consistently breaking box office records. It’s become the highest-grossing international film ever in the U.S. and the second highest-grossing film in Japan (following Mugen Train). With its current run in China, the film is on track to potentially earn over $1 billion worldwide – a rare achievement for any movie this year.
Fans of Demon Slayer have experienced an incredible journey as the anime has become hugely popular with younger generations – particularly Gen Alpha and Gen Z. It’s unlikely any other anime will achieve this level of success anytime soon, and it may be years before we see a similar phenomenon. The fact that the latest film both continues the story from the TV series and has been so successful is remarkable. However, this popularity means it will likely be a while before the film is available for home viewing.
Why Demon Slayer Won’t Be Streaming

As a huge Demon Slayer fan, I was pretty disappointed to hear straight from Crunchyroll and Sony that Infinity Castle wasn’t getting a home release anytime soon. It’s now confirmed – they’re keeping it in theaters for the rest of this year! Looks like we won’t see a Blu-ray, DVD, or streaming version until at least 2026. Honestly, it seems like they just don’t see enough profit in releasing it sooner, which is a bummer for us fans!
The movie Demon Slayer continues to perform well in cinemas, and because of its sustained success, there’s no rush to release it on streaming or other platforms. Though it’s no longer showing in many of the theaters where it first premiered, it’s still generating significant revenue, justifying its continued theatrical run. While it’s great the film is doing so well, this means fans who want to see it again currently have limited options.
