Demon Slayer: The Infinity Castle”
The Japanese theaters screened this epic movie on July 18th, 2025. Fans worldwide will have to wait a bit longer, as the U.S. release is scheduled for September 12th, 2025. This film marks the culmination of the series and boasts the most thrilling arc yet. The story unfolds in a trilogy, with the first installment running approximately two hours and 35 minutes.
Picking up from where we last saw our heroes at the end of the Hashira Training Arc, they narrowly manage to trap Muzan Kibutsuji before he escapes into his secret lair within the Infinity Castle. Drawn inside, our heroes must first confront the Upper Moons, followed by a rematch with the demon progenitor himself.
The upcoming showdown between Akaza and Tanjiro Kamado, hinted in the trailer, promises to be an unforgettable battle, potentially the greatest fight throughout the trilogy. Though Akaza gained notoriety as a popular villain in the Infinity Train movie, it was his role in the death of the beloved character, Kyojuro Rengoku, that solidified his status. The Infinity Train Arc merely paved the way for his introduction, but the final arc delves deep into Akaza’s character, providing the most poignant moments within the narrative.

Akaza Has the Saddest Backstory in Demon Slayer

In Demon Slayer, you’ll encounter some heart-wrenching scenes, particularly through the characters’ moving backstories that underscore the fractured nature of their world. Whether talking about the Demon Slayers or demons themselves, they’ve all endured hardships due to the unforgiving environment in which they existed. However, among all these tales of struggle and pain, Akaza’s story may be the saddest because he experienced a life filled with constant suffering for most of his existence.
In his previous life, a man named Hakuji, who later became known as Akaza, resorted to theft to cover his father’s medical expenses. This criminal activity earned him the label of a thief, which led to his father feeling ashamed and taking his own life. Overwhelmed by grief, Akaza spiraled into despair and often clashed with people he encountered. At the brink of giving up, Akaza was sheltered by a dojo master named Keizo, and he developed feelings for Keizo’s daughter, Koyuki. Despite his questionable past, the family welcomed him warmly, providing him with a new home at last.

Yet, another dojo was secretly contaminated the water source, leading to the tragic deaths of the master and his betrothed. In retaliation, he eliminated all those involved, and this incident came to Muzan’s attention. With nothing left to live for and no desire to go on, he transformed into a demon. Contrary to expectations, his transformation didn’t wipe away his memories entirely; a fragment of his humanity remained. The tattoos covering his body serve as reminders of his past life, as they mirror the ones he earned during his time as a thief, before meeting his fiancée.
The design that emerges when he unleashes his Blood Demon Art mirrors the hair accessories his fiancee used to wear. And it’s significant that his blood heats up at the thought of killing and consuming women – this is due to a lingering piece of his human side, which held deep affection and concern for Koyuki.
Akaza’s Tear-Jerking Farewell Concludes the Series’ Best Fight

Initially, Tanjiro was determined to defeat Akaza due to a personal tragedy involving Rengoku. Giyu Tomioka then stepped in to assist him, providing the necessary support. In this epic clash, they matched the demon’s strength and emerged even stronger from the battle. Giyu managed to break through his mental obstacles, unleashing his Demon Slayer Mark, while Tanjiro discovered the unique abilities conferred by the Sun Breathing Technique. This fight is one of the most exhilarating sequences in the entire story.
Restating for better readability: Integrating Akaza’s past only intensified the sorrowful tale. In a critical moment, Giyu and Tanjiro seemed to have no strength left, but Akaza still held a final surprise up his sleeve. On the brink of another devastating strike, his human memories resurfaced, showing him Koyuki pleading for him to halt. Overwhelmed by these recollections, Akaza self-destructed and expressed gratitude towards Tanjiro before disintegrating into dust. The battle reached its end with a heartrending reunion between him and Koyuki in the afterlife.
