Demon Slayer Studio’s Next Big Anime is Still M.I.A. Three Years Later

The anime film *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle* has broken box office records, becoming the highest-grossing anime movie ever and bringing huge success to the animation studio Ufotable. With two more *Demon Slayer* films planned, the studio is currently very busy. However, *Demon Slayer* isn’t their only project; Ufotable has been quietly working on another anime adaptation that hasn’t received much attention for over three years.

In late 2022, Hoyoverse announced they were entering the anime world with an adaptation of their popular game, *Genshin Impact*, to be produced by Ufotable. This makes sense, as *Genshin Impact*’s characters and environments have always had a strong anime aesthetic. Earlier this year, fans got a taste of what a *Genshin Impact* anime might look like with the release of a short film called *Memories of This Life*, also created by Ufotable. This short offers a preview of the style and quality to expect from the full series.

Hoyoverse’s Anime Future

I’ve noticed a lot of anime fans are getting into *Genshin Impact*, and for those who aren’t familiar, it launched in 2020 and is still incredibly popular. It’s free to play, but the way it gets you invested is through its ‘gacha’ system – you can spend a lot of time earning characters, or you can pay to get them directly. *Genshin Impact* is definitely Hoyoverse’s biggest hit, but they’ve created other successful games too, like *Honkai Star Rail*, *Zenless Zone Zero*, *Wuthering Waves*, and several more.

The partnership between *Genshin Impact* and Ufotable is expected to be a continuing one, so the anime adaptation might still be a ways off. Currently, there are no plans announced for anime versions of other games made by Hoyoverse. Ufotable has a history of successfully adapting video games into anime, most notably the *Fate/Stay* series, which they worked on long before their recent popular projects. Beyond video games, the studio also created the anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s horror manga, *Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack*, demonstrating their versatility.
