Demon Slayer’s New Movies Should Bring Back the Anime’s Best Idea

The “Demon Slayer” anime series is preparing to showcase the manga’s concluding storyline, a massive conflict between Demon Slayers and demons that will determine humanity’s survival, in a three-part movie series called “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle“. The initial film of this trilogy is now playing in Japanese theaters and will make its U.S. debut on September 12th, 2025. This first movie, running for over 2 hours and 30 minutes, will portray the start of the final battle, focusing on an intense duel between Akaza, a high-ranking demon (Upper Moon Rank 3), and the main character Tanjiro, along with Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka. Boasting top-tier animation from Ufotable, this movie is expected to be one of their most remarkable productions yet.

After achieving remarkable success in Japan, the film is surpassing viewers’ expectations with its high-quality animation and sequences that surpass the series’ already impressive visuals, making for a unique experience due to its movie-length format. However, it’s important to note that this format might have a drawback: one of the anime’s popular features, “The Taisho Era Secret,” may not be featured. In the standard episodes, this segment appears after the credits and showcases chibi-style characters breaking the fourth wall to share humorous, quirky tidbits. At this point, it’s uncertain if these movies will incorporate this segment; however, it’s possible that it could be left out, as a previous movie-length installment did not include this section.

Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Movies May Not Bring Back the Anime’s Best Element

Previously, the “Demon Slayer” franchise has condensed an entire story arc into a movie format, such as “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” which covered the Infinity Train arc and ended with the intense battle between Akaza and Rengoku, the Flame Hashira. Unlike the previous film, it didn’t include the Taisho Era Secret segment that usually appears after the credits. As a result, it seems unlikely that the “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” movies will incorporate this element. However, it’s not completely ruled out that fans might get to see another installment of the Taisho Era Secret in the future.

Approximately a year following the debut of “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train,” it was transformed into a seven-episode storyline within the traditional anime format. The initial five episodes of this restructured story featured the entertaining Taisho Era Secret segments, offering fans unique and intriguing character details once more. Given this pattern, there’s a strong possibility that a year after the premiere of “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” movie, it could also be reshaped into standard-length episodes, possibly reintroducing the Taisho Era Secret segments. This adaptation would likely benefit the anime, taking into account the anticipated two-year gap between each movie release. Dividing the movie content into episodes would help sustain excitement for the final arc while providing fans fresh perspectives through the revival of the Taisho Era Secret moments.
