Derek Hough Denies Ryan Seacrest’s Wheel of Fortune Incident Story

Derek Hough is not buying Ryan Seacrest’s version of events. 

Following a story shared by the new host of Wheel of Fortune – who took over from Pat Sajak last year – about a Dancing With the Stars judge standing on the show’s famous wheel during a celebrity episode, the judge has now responded.

I was so relieved to see him address those rumors! He posted on his Instagram Story on October 21st – US Weekly reported on it – and made it crystal clear it wasn’t true. He even shared a screenshot of what was being said about him, and strongly stated he’d never show disrespect like that to any set or the people who work on it. It was great to see him set the record straight.

I was so surprised to hear Ryan talk about what happened on the set of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune! Apparently, during a break in filming earlier this year, Derek and Bruno Tonioli were just having some fun. Ryan told USA Today that Derek was actually jumping on the middle of the wheel and got Bruno to spin it – he described it as looking like a cake topper, which is such a funny image! It just sounds like everyone was enjoying themselves.

Ryan remembered telling them, “Please don’t do that! That wheel is the only one we have, and it would break if you did.” He explained that if it broke, they’d be in serious trouble. Ryan had previously dated Derek’s sister, Julianne Hough, back in the early 2010s.

The host of On Air clarified that the incident didn’t ruin the experience, and pointed out that the professional dancers are energetic, which adds to the enjoyment.

Derek and Ryan disagree about what happened, but Derek is denying anything took place on Instagram. He jokingly added that even if something had happened, being ‘spun around like a cake ornament’ would have been fun.

Even though Ryan recently made a mistake on the show, he’s proving to be a great replacement for the longtime host, Pat Sajak. Vanna White herself has even said she approves of his performance.

Vanna told USA Today that the person in question has been excellent at their job. They were well-prepared even before starting, and that preparation has clearly been successful.

Ryan said he actually feels less nervous playing the game show with celebrities.

He explained that it’s easier to joke around with people you know well, like friends, than with strangers.
