The release date for Descendants: Wicked Wonderland was accidentally revealed when a Disney account shared the trailer online, giving fans the information they’ve been waiting for. The Descendants series has been very popular for Disney over the last ten years. The first movie came out in 2015, and the most recent one, Descendants: The Rise of Red, was released in 2024.
Disney recently released a new trailer for Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, giving fans a preview of the fifth movie in the series. But, the official Disney Australia and New Zealand TikTok account mistakenly revealed the film’s release date for Disney Channel and when it will start streaming on Disney+, as reported by @DisneyBeat101 on X.
I was so excited when Disney Australia and New Zealand dropped the new trailer for Descendants: Wicked Wonderland on TikTok! The caption finally told us when we can watch it – July 16, 2026, on the Disney Channel. We knew it was coming this summer, but Disney was holding back on the exact date until now.
A recent TikTok post revealed the release dates for the movie on both Disney Channel and Disney+. According to the post, it will air on Disney Channel and become available to stream on Disney+ the very next day, July 17th.
“Here we go. ‘Descendants: Wicked Wonderland’ is coming to Disney+ on July 17.”
Disney Australia and New Zealand accidentally revealed the release date in a recent post. Fans quickly spotted the information, so Disney took the post down and hasn’t put the trailer back up on TikTok.
Several other Disney TikTok accounts, like the one for ‘Descendants,’ also shared the trailer. Their captions were almost identical to the one that mistakenly included the release date, but they left that information out. Because the ‘Descendants’ post is still up, it confirms the Australia and New Zealand post was an error. Here’s the caption from the ‘Descendants’ TikTok for comparison:
“Here we go. ‘Descendants: Wicked Wonderland’ is coming this summer to Disney Channel and Disney+.”
Disney recently announced the first glimpse of Descendants: Wicked Wonderland with a press release, simply stating the movie is planned for release sometime in Summer 2026.
Interestingly, Descendants 5 premiered on Disney+ exactly one year after the first show of the Descendants/Zombies: Worlds Collide Tour. It was during that tour’s initial performance that Disney first revealed the movie would be released in Summer 2026.
Will Disney Change Descendants 5’s Release Date?
Disney’s quick removal of a post announcing the release date for Descendants: Wicked Wonderland suggests that July 16th might not be the final premiere date.
We can’t know exactly why, but Disney may have been aiming for a July 16th release, or that was an internal deadline they hadn’t planned to announce until they were sure the movie would be finished on time.
Fans only knew that Descendants: Wicked Wonderland would come out sometime during the summer of 2026. Based on the usual astronomical definition, summer begins on June 21st and ends on September 21st.
Mid-July is still early in the summer, so Disney likely aimed for a July 16th release date. However, they had flexibility and could have easily moved the release to sometime within the following two months while still keeping it a summer release.
It’s currently unknown if Disney will postpone the film. They appear to be taking a cautious approach, and haven’t announced a firm release date because they’re still deciding when it will be ready.
