Anthony Mackie is a remarkably engaging actor, and it’s clear he’s constantly working on new projects. In addition to playing Sam Wilson in last year’s Captain America: Brave New World and appearing in the second season of Peacock’s Twisted Metal, he also managed to film a historical action movie.
Robert Mackie is usually known for his humor and great on-screen chemistry, and he brings those qualities to every role. But his new movie shows a different side of him – a more serious and reserved character, fitting for the story. The trailer reveals a film with less comedy, but plenty of exciting, gritty action and intense fight scenes, which is exactly what you’d expect from Desert Warrior.
Anthony Mackie has played roles set in the past before, like in films such as Gangster Squad, We Are Marshall, and Detroit. But the first glimpses of his upcoming movie, Desert Warrior, suggest we’ll see the Marvel star in a completely different way. He’ll be joined by Aiysha Hart, Ghassan Massoud, Sharlto Copley, and Sir Ben Kingsley in the film.
The film Desert Warrior takes place in seventh-century Arabia and tells the story of Princess Hind, who bravely resists becoming a concubine of the powerful Emperor Kisra, putting her life in danger. She flees into the desert with her father, where they encounter a surprising ally in a bandit. As Kisra’s army chases them, the conflict builds to a final showdown at the Battle of Dhi Qar.
What’s truly remarkable about Mackie is his incredible work ethic. Despite just releasing Brave New World last year, he’s quickly returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday, which is coming out later this year. The role in this new movie is interesting, though – he could be a central leader for the Avengers, or he might have a smaller part supporting other characters.
Despite the recent cancellation of Doomsday, Anthony Mackie has several upcoming projects. Although Season 2 of the Twisted Metal series, adapted from the video game, premiered over the summer, there haven’t been any new details about Season 3 since Peacock announced it in November, leaving the filming schedule uncertain. While some Marvel actors have hinted at leaving the MCU, Mackie hasn’t indicated he’ll be stepping down, leading fans to believe he’ll appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. However, with Chris Evans returning for Doomsday, it’s unclear what that means for the future of the Captain America role.
