Square Enix is often eager to remind us it’s a multiformat publisher now.
After previous deals limited Final Fantasy 7 Remake to PlayStation, the company is now actively trying to appeal to Nintendo and Xbox fans. The next game in the series will be released on all platforms simultaneously, and it likely won’t rely on PlayStation’s large marketing budget.
It’s great that they’re expanding to more platforms, but fans are still waiting for the remastered version of Bravely Default, which initially came out only for the new Switch 2, to be released on PlayStation 5.
This week will see the release of Panoramasight: The Mermaid’s Curse, the sequel to the visual novel, on PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. Similar to the first game, it doesn’t appear there are plans to release it on PlayStation 5.
We admit the publisher has a point: visual novels usually work well on handheld devices.
Look, the PS Portal is already a thing, and we’ve seen some visual novels actually do well on PlayStation, so using that as a reason just doesn’t hold up for me.
It’s unfortunate, but the game is receiving fantastic reviews – it currently has an average score of 85 on Metacritic.
Nintendo Life seemed to enjoy the game the most, giving it a 7 out of 10 – a pretty good score!

Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo was a surprisingly enjoyable game on the Switch – a visual novel that cleverly played with the idea of breaking the fourth wall, all while telling a captivating and spooky story. The new sequel, Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse, offers more of what made the first game great, and that’s definitely a positive. I’d happily play more Paranormasight cases if Square Enix decides to make them!
Recently, Square Enix has started bringing games that were previously only available on Nintendo Switch to the PlayStation 5 – a good example is Triangle Strategy, which came out on PS5 last year.
We haven’t given up on the possibility of Panoramasight and its next game appearing on PlayStation, but if the publisher wants to emphasize that their games will be on multiple platforms, they need to be more consistent in their approach.
