On June 6, 2025, the online multiplayer shooter game Splitgate was launched for PS5 and PS4. However, only six weeks later, 1047 Games decided to halt the release (or “unlaunch”) of the game and return it to the beta testing phase. This move has led to another round of layoffs within the company.
During this period, you can continue playing the free game, but its creators are planning a fresh start or relaunch in the first few months of 2026. Members of the development team believe that the game was prematurely released.
They expressed that they set lofty objectives for Splitgate 2, and in their eagerness to present it to you, they took on more than they could handle. As a result, they hurried through some features, made some regrettable errors, and what’s most crucial – they didn’t deliver the refined, action-packed adventure with portals that you grew fond of.
As a passionate gamer, I’m excited to share that 1047 Games is taking our beloved game, Splitgate, back to its roots. We’re tearing down significant parts of the game to recapture the essence that made it unique in the first place. This includes redesigning the progression system from scratch, increasing the number of portals in our maps, streamlining monetization, focusing on classic game modes you’ve been eagerly requesting, and lots more – details coming soon! We’re inviting our community to join us in this reconstruction journey. Expect more playtests, more surveys, more ears open to your feedback, and above all, a commitment to put our community first.

In numerous aspects, it rectifies the problems we encountered with the initial version; it boasts better aesthetics, runs more smoothly, gameplay has significantly improved, there’s an abundance of content available, and the portal mechanic is enjoyable to master.
Regarding the redundancies, it has been announced that the studio has chosen a tough, yet necessary action: trimming some positions and reallocating resources for this project’s overhaul. This is indeed disheartening news. These individuals are our colleagues and companions, who have significantly contributed to our success thus far. They will be offered severance packages and assistance in finding new employment, and we are dedicated to providing support during this period of change.
To ensure that 1047 Games can dedicate their full attention to the ongoing rebuild, the servers for the initial Splitgate game will be temporarily shut down. Despite our desire to maintain the servers, the substantial financial burden over the last few years necessitates this decision. Our primary goal is to allocate resources effectively within our team.
During this transition phase of a relaunch, Splitgate 2 will continue to be playable, even though it has reached version 1.0. All Chapter 3 content is still scheduled for release in the live game. The team has been working on Splitgate for a decade and they are excited about what’s to come, expressing their determination with, “Splitgate has been our life for 10 years, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We’ve got work to do, but we aren’t giving up.
