Even with the release of its new expansion, Renegades this week, Destiny 2 from Bungie has been struggling. Player numbers have steadily declined to their lowest point since The Edge of Fate, largely due to changes in character power levels, the addition of new gear tiers, and the introduction of the Portal feature.
As a huge Destiny fan, I was really excited to hear Tyson Green talk to IGN about what’s next after The Final Shape. Apparently, they already have a plan! It sounds like they’re thinking about ways to keep us engaged after the story ends, focusing on things like more challenging endgame content, better gear to chase, and ways to really customize how difficult those challenges are. It’s awesome to know they’re thinking about long-term progression and giving us more to do!
This refers to features that motivate dedicated players to fully explore the game and earn valuable rewards for their effort.
The game didn’t go as expected, but the team is dedicated to learning from player feedback and keeping it active. Green explained that while their initial ideas seemed good, they didn’t translate well into the actual game experience. They’ve realized that successful live games either actively listen to their players and make changes based on that feedback, or they eventually fail.
We want to avoid turning Destiny into a game that feels stale, so we’re committed to continuing to develop and improve it. Player feedback has been clear: they’re not interested in just grinding for meaningless numbers; they want to earn worthwhile and tangible rewards.
Destiny 2: Renegades comes out on December 2nd for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. While inspired by Star Wars and made with LucasArts, it reimagines the Star Wars universe within the world of Destiny. Expect to see elements like Praxic Blades acting as lightsabers and the Barant Imperium standing in for the Empire. The game also features Bael, a villain who feels a lot like Kylo Ren, both in voice and appearance – he even wears a mask reminiscent of Revan.
Explore the latest Exotics, like a jetpack for Titans and new weapons, right here. The gameplay seems to take a lot of inspiration from Helldivers 2.
