There are reports suggesting Bungie is beginning early development on Destiny 3. If this is accurate, it could be one of Sony’s major game launches for the next PlayStation console, the PS6.
So, a reliable Destiny leaker named Colony Deaks is the one dropping this info. I’ve seen their stuff before, and they’ve been right on the money a bunch of times, which is why people are actually paying attention to this.
According to a post on X (formerly Twitter), a source familiar with the project says they’ve known about the sequel for several weeks, but emphasized it’s still in the very early stages of development. The account plans to reveal more details in the months ahead.
Destiny 2 has been facing challenges recently, as the number of players has decreased after the release of The Final Shape, which finished the game’s main storyline in 2024.
The company has continued to support the game with new content, and they’re hoping the upcoming Star Wars-themed ‘Renegade’ update will attract a large number of returning players.
Sony, the owner of Destiny 2, is unhappy with how the game has been performing. They recently reported a $200 million loss because not enough people are playing and engaging with the game.
Adding to the challenges, Bungie has also postponed the release of their upcoming shooter, Marathon, which is currently being tested again. This means there will be significant expectations for the game when it finally launches next year.
Despite everything, a Destiny 3 could be a fresh start, attracting new players. The current game is difficult for anyone who isn’t already a dedicated fan to get into.
If development is still in its very early stages, as the source suggests, the sequel likely won’t be released for at least four to five years. This could mean we won’t get to play it until around 2030.
This would likely be a major release for Sony, comparable to games from the PlayStation 6 generation. However, it’s difficult to feel enthusiastic when the project is still so far off in the future.
