Quantic Dream, the game studio known for story-driven titles like Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, has announced that Detroit: Become Human, released in 2018, has surpassed 15 million copies sold. This number includes sales from both PC and PlayStation 4.
David Cage, the president, writer, and director of Quantic Dream, has shared his thoughts on the success of Detroit: Become Human, expressing gratitude for the game’s dedicated community. He highlighted that reaching this sales milestone over seven years after its initial release demonstrates the story’s lasting impact on players.
Wow, it’s incredible to think that Detroit: Become Human is still connecting with people over seven years after it came out! It’s amazing how many players are discovering it and joining the conversation. The game started as a way to explore ideas about choices, feeling for others, and what it means to be human, and it’s become something so much bigger – a shared experience for tens of millions of us. Honestly, this huge milestone isn’t about the developers or me, it’s about us, the fans, who loved the story and kept it alive. Everyone at the studio is so thankful for our continued support – and I’m right there with them!
Guillaume de Fondaumière, CEO of the studio and head of publishing, shared a statement highlighting the ongoing success of Detroit: Become Human. He specifically commended the game’s compelling story and its ability to spark reflection in players long after finishing it.
According to de Fondaumière, reaching this new achievement demonstrates how deeply Detroit: Become Human connects with players and its enduring influence on culture. The game’s ongoing popularity on various platforms and around the world proves the strength of stories that fully immerse players, encouraging them to think critically and continue engaging with the narrative even after finishing the game.
Quantic Dream last celebrated a big sales achievement in October 2024, when they revealed that Detroit: Become Human had sold over 10 million copies globally. Studio head Guillaume de Fondaumière shared the news on social media, expressing gratitude to the game’s fans for their support.
Quantic Dream, the team behind Detroit: Become Human, is currently developing two new games. One is Star Wars Eclipse, a story-driven adventure revealed in 2021, and the other is Spellcasters Chronicles, a free-to-play multiplayer game where teams of three compete against each other.
Quantic Dream last publicly discussed Star Wars Eclipse in October. At the time, the studio confirmed development was still ongoing, despite a lack of updates. They addressed rumors of difficulties, including the departure of the lead writer in 2024, and stated they look forward to sharing more information when they can.
Just announced a few months ago, Spellcasters Chronicles is a new PvP game from Quantic Dream. Players will build custom decks of over 50 different spells and summons to define their role in matches. The game will also be updated with new seasons that change both how it’s played and its story.
