Clyde Phillips, the showrunner for *Dexter: Resurrection*, has dismissed a popular fan theory. Many viewers, disappointed with previous seasons, gave the revival a chance and found it to be one of the strongest installments of the entire series. The story follows Dexter Morgan as he attempts to reconnect with his son in New York City while being haunted by events from his past. He also faces new dangers that awaken his murderous impulses, creating intense conflict. Ultimately, the season delivers what fans have always wanted, focusing on thrilling storylines without dwelling on Dexter’s guilt or trying to punish him.
The success of *Dexter: Resurrection* comes down to giving fans what they’ve been hoping for. The show even acknowledges the audience directly in its final scene, letting them know their voices were heard. While Paramount+ and Showtime haven’t officially announced it yet, a second season of *Dexter: Resurrection* is definitely in the works. Creator Clyde Phillips has confirmed the writers will begin planning on October 6th, with filming expected to start next spring. Until then, fans are busy speculating about what’s next.
Dexter: Resurrection Creator Debunks Mia Theory
After Mia’s death in Episode 6 of *Dexter: Resurrection*, viewers have wondered if everything happened as it appeared. Charley bribed a guard to handle Mia, but it was never shown exactly what she asked him to do. Later, Batista and the police question Charley, only to learn that Mia supposedly died by suicide in her cell, confirmed by the paid guard. While it seems the guard faked her suicide, some fans think he actually helped Mia escape by making it look like she died.
I always thought the idea that Mia was still alive was a stretch. It would require an autopsy and burial or cremation, which didn’t happen. However, the theory gained traction after the final episode of *Dexter: Resurrection*. Dexter found Mia’s file while looking through Prater’s records, and it was marked “active” – unlike files of people who were known to be dead. While some fans saw this as proof she was alive, it’s more likely Prater simply hadn’t updated the file. He was busy dealing with a lot of deaths and, of course, keeping Dexter entertained.
On the *Dissecting Dexter* podcast, creator Clyde Phillips addressed a popular fan theory, clarifying it wasn’t intentionally planted as a hint for later seasons. While anything is still possible, he seems to have dismissed the idea. Although *Dexter: Resurrection* is currently planned for three seasons, Phillips admits they’re still developing the storyline and haven’t finalized all the details. There’s a chance Mia could return – even Krysten Ritter, who played her, has hinted at discussions about the character – but this may have been in relation to a potential spin-off series.
With the cancellation of *Dexter: Original Sin* Season 2, it’s now doubtful we’ll see any further *Dexter* spin-offs. Clyde Phillips, the showrunner, has expressed his disappointment with the cancellation and indicated that Paramount is unlikely to proceed with the planned *Trinity Killer* series. This also throws into question any other potential spin-offs that were being considered. Previously, the plan was to create a *Dexter* television universe, similar to *Yellowstone*, but that was before Paramount merged with Skydance. Phillips spent a year developing ideas for future shows, but now the focus appears to be solely on *Dexter: Resurrection*.
