Fans of Dexter now have a confirmed start date for Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection! It’s remarkable how popular Dexter became, especially with the rise of streaming services. While the show was a huge success for Showtime in the late 2000s and early 2010s, many fans were disappointed with how it ended. Years later, Dexter found a new audience online, leading to follow-up series like Dexter: New Blood and the popular Dexter: Resurrection.
The series Dexter: Resurrection brought back the popular serial killer and largely delivered what fans were hoping for. Dexter seemed happier and more self-accepting, even working on his relationship with his son. While he moved his killings to New York City instead of Miami, this created new problems. The show ended with possibilities for future stories, and now, more content in that universe is on the way.
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Begins Shooting in April

A second season of Dexter: Resurrection is happening, as confirmed by Michael C. Hall. The writing team started working in early October and is currently developing the new episodes. While details about the plot are still under wraps, showrunner Clyde Phillips recently shared on the Dark Passengers: A Dexter Podcast (via Dexter Daily) that filming will begin soon.
According to Phillips, the writing process should take around five months, putting script completion around February or March. This will allow enough time for pre-production, with filming scheduled to start on April 13th, 2026. This timeline aligns with Phillips’ earlier comments that Dexter: Resurrection will shoot in the spring and summer, meaning a return during the same time frame as the first season isn’t feasible.
While there’s no official announcement yet, the second season of Dexter: Resurrection is likely to premiere in Fall 2026. That’s a bit of a wait, but it’s shorter than what some fans have experienced with other shows. Good news for fans: showrunner Clyde Phillips has hinted that Season 2 will finally introduce the New York Ripper, a character teased in the first season.
