Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection will finally reveal a villain mentioned in Season 1, but never seen on screen. Throughout the Dexter series, compelling villains have always been a key ingredient for success. A standout example is Season 4, where John Lithgow delivered a chilling performance as the Trinity Killer, a rare antagonist who truly impacted Dexter. Dexter: Resurrection upped the ante with a cast of villainous characters, making it one of the most exciting seasons yet.
After the first season of Dexter: Resurrection neatly resolved most storylines, viewers are curious about what’s next. The season finale gave Dexter access to Leon Prater’s case files, potentially allowing him to hunt other criminals, either in New York or beyond. While the ending leaves possibilities open, there isn’t a clear path for the show. As a result, fans have come up with many different theories about the future of the series.
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Will Feature the New York Ripper

During the first season of Dexter: Resurrection, viewers spent a lot of time trying to figure out who The New York Ripper was – a dangerous killer who left a lasting impact on the city. Almost every character became a suspect, but it turned out the Ripper was a man named Don Framt, and he’s only briefly mentioned. His case ended up with the police, so it looks like he’ll be investigated rather than becoming one of Dexter’s victims. However, his story isn’t over and will continue in Season 2.
Clyde Phillips, the creator of the show, revealed on the “Dark Passengers” podcast that the New York Ripper will appear in the second season of Dexter: Resurrection. While Phillips kept details about the new season limited, he shared this information knowing fans were eager to learn more. The writers were surprised by the strong fan interest in the New York Ripper during Season 1 and hadn’t initially planned to develop the character much further. However, the enthusiastic response led them to reconsider, and the New York Ripper will now have a significant role in Season 2.
Okay, so just because this guy is a killer doesn’t automatically mean he’s the big bad of the season, right? He could end up being a side story, maybe getting investigated by the cops. In the original show, Dexter could always use his police badge to get close to suspects, but now that’s not an option. Anything he does to get near this guy would instantly look super suspicious. Still, he is a serial killer who’s hurt a lot of people, so even if he’s not the main villain, he’s definitely a bad guy!
The second season of Dexter: Resurrection is currently being written. According to Phillips, it won’t be released next summer as the first season was – they’ll still be filming then. A release in the fall is more probable, although not yet official. However, we can likely expect to see Dexter and the New York Ripper back on television sometime next year!
