Greetings! I can hardly contain my excitement as I share this news with you, a fellow aficionado of the dark and captivating world of Dexter Morgan. Can you believe it? The one and only Dexter is back, and I couldn’t be more thrilled! If by any chance you know someone who shares our secret obsession for Michael C. Hall’s titular vigilante serial killer, do tell them the fantastic news.
The first two episodes of the long-awaited sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, have now been released and are ready to stream on Paramount+ with a subscription. This new chapter sets the stage for where Dexter, Harry, and other characters’ stories will unfold. Unfortunately, it seems that our beloved recurring stars Eric Stonestreet and Krysten Ritter won’t be making an appearance in this season, but I remain hopeful for future episodes.
So, let us join hands (metaphorically speaking) and dive back into the intricate web of Dexter Morgan as we eagerly await more twists and turns in this captivating tale.
I had the opportunity to watch both actors’ debut episodes for their respective franchises prior to their airing on the 2025 TV schedule, significantly enhancing an already outstanding cast. Alongside David Dastmalchian, these two, previously from “Modern Family” and “Jessica Jones”, shared insights about the new show with TopMob. I even asked Stonestreet to comment on the potential overlap between “Dexter’s” fanbase and that of the long-running ABC sitcom. In his words:
Initially, it’s truly astounding to be a part of the global community surrounding Dexter, its dedicated fanbase. I’ve been on a popular series for over a decade and have had plenty of people discussing the show with me. However, since the news of my casting broke, I’ve been genuinely amazed by the outpouring of support and enthusiasm from fans. This level of engagement underscores why Dexter: Resurrection is bound to succeed – it’s all thanks to this passionate fanbase.
I can easily visualize how enthusiastic fans might be to shout out Cam’s lines from Modern Family, and I could also envision how real-life entertainers would appreciate his character for turning Fizbo into such a well-known figure. (Additionally, it’s not a spoiler, but there actually is a significant clown reference in the actor’s debut episode.)

In the series Dexter: Resurrection, there’s no room for comedic antics, despite Al, a character who appears to be cut from the cloth of a prime-time comedy. Due to the stark contrast between these two shows, Eric Stonestreet doubts that he’ll often witness fans connecting the dots between the two series in public, as he points out.
In simpler terms, while both characters are played by me, they have distinct personalities and I strive to portray their individual human qualities and comedic aspects differently.
It’s no secret that I believe Eric Stonestreet’s “Modern Family” co-star Ed O’Neill would be an absolutely brilliant fit in the “Dexter” world. His ability to convincingly portray warmth, humor, and menace is truly impressive. However, for now, we can only appreciate other top-tier additions like Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, and Neil Patrick Harris instead.

Krysten Ritter joined the discussion among fans, expressing that although she’s used to fan adoration due to her time as Jessica Jones and her upcoming role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, she was still taken aback by the enthusiasm shown after the casting announcement. In her own words:
It turns out that the fanbase for this project is much larger than I expected, as I didn’t fully grasp its scale until after the casting was complete. In fact, we’re headed to San Diego Comic Con, which is just enormous! To be honest, given my background with Marvel’s Jessica Jones, I hadn’t foreseen such a massive following, but it’s truly thrilling to be a part of it all now.
It’s possible that Ritter’s character Mia might motivate some unique Halloween costumes for the approaching festival, considering she has a knack for dressing up in elegant attire on occasion. Admittedly, it may not be an immediately recognizable costume choice.
In my humble opinion as a film critic, I must express my gratitude towards the visionaries behind the camera, Clyde Phillips and Scott Reynolds, who entrusted me with the opportunity to reinvent myself in the gripping narrative of “Resurrection”. Their faith allowed me to unearth a fresh layer in my acting repertoire that was both unsettling and rewarding.
In essence, what I yearned for was to be an actor capable of crafting characters that resonated with people on some level. I am deeply grateful to Scott and Clyde for providing me with a platform to connect with people in a unique manner, different from the 11 seasons I previously spent doing so.
I’ve got some exciting news, fellow Dexter enthusiasts! The first two episodes of “Dexter: Resurrection” are now streaming on Paramount+, and mark your calendars because starting this Sunday, July 13th at 8:00 p.m. ET, it will be airing on Showtime. Keep an eye out for updates on the Trinity Killer prequel that Michael C. Hall recently gave us a sneak peek of! Can’t wait to dive back into the world of Dexter Morgan!
