The first season finale of Dexter: Resurrection introduced a new serial killer who will be a key focus in future episodes, with a storyline that cleverly references a famous thriller film. The series brought back Michael C. Hall as Dexter, revealing he actually survived the events of Dexter: New Blood. Season 1 also saw Dexter resolve some unfinished business with his friend Angel Batista (David Zayas) before returning to his life as a vigilante killer. The finale concluded by offering a glimpse of the next killer Dexter will be hunting.
The first season’s antagonist was Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), a wealthy man fascinated by serial killers, though he hadn’t committed any murders himself until he shot Angel Batista in front of Dexter. This forced Dexter to evade Leon and his protector, Charley (Uma Thurman), ultimately leading to Dexter killing both of them and escaping. Afterward, Dexter discovered a file in Leon’s records detailing “Don Frampt, New York Ripper.” According to Deadline, Brian Cox will portray the New York Ripper.
Former Hannibal Lecter Actor Playing New York Ripper In Dexter: Resurrection

It’s come full circle for Brian Cox: the actor is now playing a serial killer in Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection. Interestingly, before Anthony Hopkins became famous for the role, Cox was the very first actor to portray Hannibal Lecter on film – though his name was spelled ‘Hannibal Lecktor’ in that movie, called Manhunter. Manhunter was also the first film adaptation of a novel by Thomas Harris, and only the fourth movie directed by Michael Mann, known for films like Heat and Collateral.
The film Manhunter originated from the novel Red Dragon, which was later adapted again with Anthony Hopkins and Edward Norton playing Hannibal and Will Graham, respectively. These characters also took center stage in the Hannibal TV series, portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy. However, the original movie featured Brian Cox as Hannibal, William Petersen as Will Graham, and Tom Noonan as Francis Dollarhyde. Though less famous, Manhunter is often considered the better film adaptation of Red Dragon and showcased the emerging talent of director Michael Mann.
Brian Cox, known for his role in the hit show Succession, will play the main villain in the upcoming Dexter series. The story will likely involve Dexter tracking down dangerous serial killers, stemming from information found in files previously held by Leon Prater. While Brian Cox is confirmed to be playing a character called the New York Ripper, details about the season’s plot are still being kept under wraps.
