As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must share that Dick Van Dyke had to regretfully withdraw from a comedy gathering this past weekend, owing to an undisclosed health issue, according to reports by People on Saturday, June 28th.
Ninety-nine-year-old Van Dyke was scheduled to co-host Vandy Camp with his spouse Arlene Silver at the Arlene & Dick Van Dyke Theater at Malibu High School this coming Saturday. Regrettably, due to unforeseen circumstances, the actor had to cancel his participation in the event.
53-year-old Silver appeared and addressed the gathering, informing them that her husband, Dick, was unable to join in the festivities. She expressed regret, stating, “I must tell you that Dick is not well enough to attend today’s celebration.” She further explained, “At 99 and a half years old, one has good days and difficult days.” (This version aims to maintain the original sentiment while using more conversational language.)
Silver also said she is “pretty confident” Van Dyke will be at the next Vandy Camp.
In my role as a lifestyle expert, I must share that it’s not the first time an unexpected circumstance has necessitated the cancellation of one of my appearances. For instance, back in 2024 on September 23rd, the organizers at Fan X in Salt Lake City had to regretfully inform attendees that I would unfortunately be unable to attend their event for that year.
We regretfully inform you that Dick Van Dyke can’t make it to FanX due to health reasons. He appreciates everyone who has stood by him, but given his age and the demands of traveling and interacting with large crowds, it’s beyond what he’s currently capable of.

Previously this year, Silver mentioned to participants at another Vandy Camp that the advanced age of her spouse comes with its pros and cons.
The actor shared with the audience that he and Ed Asner had intended to collaborate on a remake of the 1970 film “The Odd Couple,” but unfortunately, this project was scrapped following Asner’s passing in 2021. Dick lamented, “What a missed opportunity for some great fun! Sadly, it didn’t happen.” He further expressed his grief by saying, “I’ve lost another dear friend.
Later, she mentioned that her husband had lived longer than everyone he’d known. “It seems to be a consequence of reaching nearly a century,” she added on.
Regardless of the challenges that come with aging, the actor has managed to preserve his distinctively funny personality even as he approaches his 99th birthday. In an interview with Page Six before his birthday, Van Dyke shared that he was merely “hopeful I’ll make it” to age 99.
On December 13, 2024, Van Dyke turned 99 years old and marked this significant milestone by appearing in a Coldplay music video filmed at his Malibu residence. The video for “All My Love” was made in his honor. In an interview with the BBC, he talked about filming the video and said, “I’m aware that I could pass away anytime soon, but it doesn’t bother me. I’m not afraid of it. I have a feeling that everything will be okay for me.
