Dick Van Dyke, 99, Pulls Out of Event Last Minute Due to Illness

A spoonful of sugar didn’t do the trick this time.

99-year-old Dick Van Dyke regretfully had to cancel his appearance at the Vandy Camp in Malibu, California on June 28th, as he was dealing with an illness, according to his wife Arlene Silver.

In a talk at Malibu High School’s Dick Van Dyke Theater on June 28, the 53-year-old individual revealed that she is not the person people are accustomed to associating with Dick Van Dyke.

Arlene shared with everyone that unfortunately, Dick won’t be joining us for our celebration today. She apologized for any inconvenience this may cause.

At nearly 100 years of age, she explained, there are ups and downs. Sadly, today isn’t one of the better days for him, as he’s too unwell to join us.

Regardless, viewers managed to catch a glimpse of the former Mary Poppins star during a live broadcast. He’s optimistic about his recovery and seems determined to make it to the next performance. His wife, who is significantly younger, expressed her belief that he will indeed be present for the upcoming show.

The person who has won a Tony, Grammy, and Emmy (with only the Oscar left to win an EGOT) has shared insights into how he keeps fit as he approaches his hundredth birthday.

Van Dyke shared with TopMob News back in June that he has consistently worked out three days a week for some time now. His routine involves weight lifting and using the treadmill, which he strives to maintain. He acknowledged that one cannot stay physically youthful forever, but emphasized that maintaining a young mindset is possible, and that’s why he feels he never truly grew up.

His job, undeniably, is crucial in that context. When he spoke about his entry into show business, he stated, “It’s not really a living, it’s show business.” He further explained, “It’s more like acting. I’ve been pretending for 80 years. I can’t call it work because it isn’t. It’s something I genuinely enjoy and appreciate everything about it.

The entertainer further stated, “I have absolutely no criticisms whatsoever. If given another chance, I would live my life identically as before.
