Did Kim Cattrall Return for And Just Like That’s Finale? The Truth

Warning: This story contains major spoilers from the Aug. 14 episode of And Just Like That.

And just like that… it’s over.

The TV series And Just Like That, which is a revival of Sex and the City, concluded its three-season run on HBO Max on August 14, bidding farewell to fans’ cherished characters Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis).

But what about the series’ fourth main character Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall)?

Indeed, enthusiasts who had been eagerly anticipating a special guest appearance by the cherished PR maven as a tribute to the last episode of And Just Like That must have felt disheartened when Samantha did not make an appearance in the finale, and there was no mention of her either.

Actually, Kim’s appearance was limited to just a short cameo during the final episode of season two. This particular scene featured Samantha and Carrie having a quick chat over the phone.

In 2021, when the series returned, several people were taken aback because Kim initially declined to reprise her role, a decision she made 17 years after the original “Sex and the City” series ended in 2004.

After her brief appearance, it was evident that the actress had no plans to record further scenes for the show’s series.

As for where I stand now, I made it clear during an interview on the Today show, expressing that this is as far as I’ll go for the time being. However, when it comes to Samantha, I can’t imagine ever truly parting ways. Much like other characters I’ve portrayed throughout my career, she holds a special place in my heart and I feel a deep connection and guardianship towards her. She has given me so much and I am incredibly grateful for her.

Kim made it clear that she didn’t want to compromise the fond memories associated with her initial portrayal of Samantha by reprising the role entirely.

In 2022, she shared with Variety that it’s wise to know when something is sufficient. She also emphasized that she didn’t want to alter the essence of the show for her own sake. Her path forward appeared evident.

Additionally, she noted that the portrayal of the iconic character within “And Just Like That” seems distinct from the Samantha role I previously embodied.

As a committed actor, let me express that finding out I’m dearly missed would undeniably be the highest praise I could receive.
