Did Steven Tyler and Girlfriend Aimee Preston Break Up? The Truth

Steven Tyler and girlfriend Aimee Preston don’t wanna miss a thing together.

Aerosmith’s lead singer and his partner are still together after nearly a decade, despite recent rumors of a split. TopMob News confirmed that the couple haven’t broken up, despite reports surfacing on December 19th.

Steven and Aimee met in 2012 when Aimee started working as his assistant. They didn’t publicly acknowledge they were a couple until 2016, when they appeared together at Elton John’s Oscar party fundraiser, holding hands.

Though Steven, 77, and Aimee, 38, haven’t often discussed their relationship in public, they frequently show their affection for each other online.

In 2019, Steven posted a photo of himself and Aimee wearing matching heart-shaped sunglasses with a sweet message: ‘No matter the weather… you and me together.’ He wished his ‘lady love’ a happy Valentine’s Day and sent ‘kisses’ to everyone.

Later that year, the singer of “Dream On” shared a heartwarming black and white photo of the couple hugging, with the caption, “Love in an elevator.”

Aimee has shown Steven a lot of affection, posting a photo of them kissing and covered in mud back in March 2020, shortly after lockdowns began due to Covid-19.

She jokingly wrote in the caption, adding a black heart, that they were already a disaster before the quarantine started. This made celebrating her birthday while stuck at home feel like it was always meant to happen.

Aimee, a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, is a strong supporter of Janie’s Fund, a charity started by Steven and Youth Village to help women and girls who have experienced trauma and abuse. She includes a link to the charity’s website on her Instagram profile and recently posted about attending a Janie’s Fund event in February, where she was wearing a necklace with the name “Steven” on it.

Steven, father to Liv Tyler (48), Mia Tyler (46), Chelsea Tyler (36), and Taj Tallarico (34), has generally kept his relationship with Aimee private. However, the Grammy-winning artist has often openly discussed his past relationships, including his marriages to Cyrinda Foxe (1978-1987) and Teresa Barrick (1988-2006).

Oh my gosh, when he told Oprah back in 2012 that he really messed things up with his exes and hurt them so badly, it just broke my heart! He seemed so genuinely remorseful, and he said the most important thing – that he never wants to cause anyone that kind of pain again. It just shows how much he’s grown, you know?

For a look at more of Steve’s relationships and complicated family tree, keep reading.

Liv Tyler, the oldest child of Steven Tyler, found out she was his daughter at age 11. Her mother, Bebe Buell, told her the truth while they were at an Aerosmith concert.

Liv Rundgren was born on July 1, 1977. Although her parents weren’t together, her mother’s partner, musician Todd Rundgren, legally acknowledged her by signing her birth certificate.

In his 2011 memoir, Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?, Steven wrote that he first learned about Liv around Christmas 1980 when he reconnected with Bebe in Portland, Maine.

The singer wrote that she became pregnant while in Germany, and they split up after their tour ended. She admitted she initially doubted she was the father, and Bebe Buell eventually decided Todd Rundgren would be a more supportive parent. Bebe showed her pictures of their daughter, Liv, and they both wept before he went on stage.

For Liv, perspective came with time.

In a 2008 interview with the Daily Telegraph, Liv explained that she now feels more understanding towards her parents. She said that as a child, she struggled to grasp their differing perspectives and roles, but she’s come to terms with it. Ultimately, she believes what’s most important is the relationship she has with them today.

And more time bred even more perspective.

In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, Liv expressed deep gratitude for Todd stepping up as a father figure in her life. She explained that it meant a lot to her that he chose to be her father even though he wasn’t biologically related. Despite not being with her mother, Todd was a consistently supportive and loving presence throughout her childhood.

It actually explained a lot when she discovered Steven was her father. She remembered feeling a powerful connection to him when they first met as a child, and now she understood why. It didn’t take her long to realize the truth.

Looking back on her mom’s choices, Liv noted that Bebe was only 23 when she had her.

Liv explained to The Guardian that her mother felt overwhelmed and decided to have her live with relatives in Maine. She split her time between her aunt and uncle’s family and her grandparents, giving her a childhood surrounded by family.

And when she met Steven, “It was fun getting to know his side of the family.”

Liv described her two famous fathers, both Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, as being like mythical creatures – “unicorns or wizards.”

She noted that their way of thinking was simply different. Surprisingly, their quirks actually helped her become more grounded and conventional.

Liv Tyler began her career in entertainment at age 16, appearing in Aerosmith’s “Crazy” music video with Alicia Silverstone. She quickly moved into films, starring in movies like Stealing Beauty, Empire Records, That Thing You Do!, and Armageddon.

When asked about his teenage daughter’s appearance in the video, Steven told Rolling Stone in 1994 that he had open and honest conversations with his children about difficult topics like sex, drugs, and life in general.

As a dad, I’m practical,” he explained. “You can raise your kids the best you can and hope they make good choices.”

The actress, known for her role in Captain America: Brave New World, has three children. She shares son Milo William Langdon, born December 14, 2004, with her ex-husband, musician Royston Langdon. She also has son Sailor Gene Gardner, born February 11, 2015, and daughter Lula Rose Gardner, born July 8, 2016, with her former partner, David Gardner.

In a 2015 interview with More magazine, Liv shared that the most rewarding part of being a parent is the way it teaches you about yourself and your own resilience. She explained that raising children helped her discover her inner strength.

She acknowledged that she can only do so much. “As a mom, I dream of making all the meals, reading all the bedtime stories, and handling everything at home, while also working full-time,” she explained to The Guardian. “I tend to be very critical of myself.”

I was so happy to see that even though Liv and Dave aren’t together anymore, they’re still great coparents. It really warmed my heart that the whole family – including Dave’s son, Gray Gardner, and his mom, Emma Gardner – all spent Christmas together in 2024. It’s wonderful they could prioritize family, even after their split.

Steven married model Cyrinda Foxe on September 1st, 1978. Their daughter, Mia Abagale Tyler, was born a few months later on December 22nd.

Mia discovered she had a half-sister at age nine in a surprising way. Cyrinda, who had divorced Mia’s father, Steven, in 1987, and Bebe, Liv’s mother, brought their daughters to the same Aerosmith concert, leading to the unexpected family connection.

I was telling the story on Kate and Oliver Hudson’s podcast, Sibling Revelry, about a funny moment with Liv. We were backstage at an event, hanging out in a VIP area near the green rooms, just being our goofy 9-year-old selves, when a fan approached us. She was so sweet and exclaimed how adorable we were, and then actually asked if we were sisters! It was a really cute experience.

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE how much Mia and I have in common! Liv was saying in The Guardian that Mia has this little hand thing she does, and it’s literally just like something I do! It’s so freaky! Anyway, Mia did modeling and acting for a while, just like me, but she eventually found other creative things she loved even more. I’m so proud of her, honestly, but it’s still wild how similar we are!

I wasn’t happy after leaving modeling and tried various jobs in the entertainment world, but nothing felt right,” the photographer explained to God Is In The TV back in 2013. “It wasn’t until I started using a camera and experimenting with photography that I felt truly empowered.

She described growing up with remarkably open-minded parents who encouraged her self-expression. While her mother had once hoped she’d become a nun, it was clear even when she was young that wasn’t her path. She acknowledged that having a well-known parent created opportunities she might not have otherwise had, but emphasized that it’s the choices you make with those opportunities that truly define you.

I was so saddened to learn about Cyrinda. Before she found happiness with Steven, she was actually married to David Johansen of the New York Dolls – can you believe that?! Later, in 2002, she married Keith Waa, a musician, but tragically, she passed away from brain cancer just a short time after, at only 50 years old. It’s just heartbreaking to think about.

Mia was married to Papa Roach drummer Dave Buckner from 2002 until 2005.

She gave birth to her son, Axton Joseph Tallarico (using her father’s original last name), on May 10, 2017. His father was Dan Halen, her boyfriend at the time.

Mia recently revealed she’s dating Dewey Bragg, the singer from the band Kill Devil Hill. In a heartfelt Instagram post on February 27, 2025, she thanked him for being her best friend and love, playfully referencing how their romance began a year prior with a single kiss – a moment she described as being “bonked over the head and dragged into your cave.” She reminisced about their connection starting with a simple whistle 17 years ago and expressed her love for him, saying it spans all past and future lives.

Steven married Teresa Barrick on May 28, 1988, and they had a daughter, Chelsea Anna Tyler (born Tallarico), on March 6, 1989.

Chelsea and actor Jon Foster got married in 2015, four years after being set up by Zoë Kravitz. Together, they created the electronica-soul band Kaneholler.

Chelsea, who was a student and model when she met her husband, explained to Nylon in 2015 that the way they collaborated professionally actually strengthened their personal relationship, which surprised her. She noted that making music requires honest and direct communication. ‘There’s no room for pretense,’ she said. ‘You have to be able to say exactly what you don’t like or what you’re not comfortable with. It demands authenticity.’

She and Jon also became parents to their son, Vincent Frank Foster, on February 21, 2020, and their daughter, Isabella Rae Foster, on March 14, 2022.

Steven and Teresa also share son Taj Monroe Tallarico, born Jan. 31, 1991.

He’s the most private person in his family, and he’s only appeared in one acting role—as “Bystander #2” in a 2002 episode of Lizzie McGuire. He also doesn’t use social media much.

He married Brittany Reardon on October 27, 2018, and sometimes appears in photos on his family’s Instagram accounts.

Oh my gosh, it’s just so sad about Steven and Teresa – they split up way back in 2006. But thankfully, he’s found someone! I’ve known for ages – since at least 2018 – that he’s been with Aimee Preston, and honestly, they seem perfect together! I’m so happy for him!
