Did Tom Brady Violate Rules in Raiders’ Coaching Booth? NFL Says…

The refs aren’t calling a flag on Tom Brady‘s latest play. 

Tom Brady, the former New England Patriots quarterback, caused some confusion when he visited the Las Vegas Raiders’ coaching area during their September 15th game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The NFL has now clarified whether his presence violated any rules.

The football organization stated that Tom Brady, who now co-owns the Raiders and works as a sports commentator for Fox, didn’t violate any rules with his recent actions.

According to NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy, there’s no rule preventing an owner from being in the coaches’ booth or using a headset during a game. He explained that Tom Brady was in the booth as a limited partner of the team.

The league confirmed Tom Brady was allowed to wear a headset while in the coaching area. According to a spokesperson, anyone in the booth must follow rules limiting electronic devices to only league-provided equipment, like the Microsoft Surface tablets used for the sideline viewing system.

The NFL stated that Brady could face penalties if he visited a team’s practice facility for practices or meetings.

He can participate in production meetings from a remote location, but isn’t allowed to attend them in person at the team’s facilities or hotel. He’s also permitted to conduct interviews with players at locations outside of those facilities, similar to what he did a few times last year, including during the Super Bowl.

The NFL clarified that, like all meetings with broadcast crews, it’s up to the team, coach, or players to decide what they discuss.

Tom Brady, who retired from professional football in 2023, is staying involved in the sport. He recently announced he’ll be playing in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic, a new international flag football game, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in March 2026.

He playfully compared returning to the field to riding a bike during a September 15th interview with Fox Sports. Having played for over 30 years, he feels confident and eager to get back into shape.
