The Super Mario Galaxy Movie brought together many of Nintendo’s most popular characters, feeling like a celebration for fans. While not every character from the Mario universe appeared, the movie focused on Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Bowser, and also introduced Princess Rosalina, Yoshi, and Bowser Jr. as new additions to the story.
I was so excited to see some unexpected Nintendo faces pop up in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! Fox McCloud had a surprisingly big role, and even Mr. Game and Watch made a quick, funny cameo. But honestly, it felt a little strange that one of Nintendo’s biggest stars wasn’t really in the movie—there was a tiny nod to them, but you could easily miss it if you weren’t looking closely!
Kirby Doesn’t Appear In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie But He Is Referenced
Fans who adore Kirby – the cute, pink, and surprisingly strong character – were disappointed he wasn’t in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Many expected to see him, even though he wasn’t featured in the trailers, as he seemed like a perfect fit for the big screen.
While Kirby doesn’t actually appear in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, fans spotted a hidden nod to the character. Early in the film, inside Rosalina’s home, one of the Lumas—her star-shaped companions—looks a lot like Kirby, being round and pink.
The connection to Kirby becomes clear in how this Luma moves – it bounces and floats through the air, just like Kirby does. It’s a quick detail, but the similarity in appearance and movement is intentional. However, it doesn’t quite capture the charm of the original Kirby.
Will Kirby Appear In A Future Super Mario Movie?
While a sequel to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hasn’t been officially confirmed, talks about continuing the series are happening. Despite the lack of an announcement, it seems highly likely that another movie or continuation of the franchise will be made.
Despite some varied opinions from critics, The Super Mario Galaxy movie is a huge financial success, earning $34.5 million on its opening day. Given the popularity of the Mario franchise, we can expect more movies in the future. This leads to a big question for fans: will the character Kirby make an appearance in a future Mario film?
Right now, whether or not Kirby will appear in future movies is still unknown, just like the future of the series itself. It would be a real loss if he wasn’t included, though. The Super Mario Bros. Movie showed that the franchise can successfully add new characters – fans loved Yoshi, for example – and Kirby would almost certainly be just as popular.
To attract a broad audience, introducing a cute and endearing creature would be a smart move – look at how successful Star Wars was with The Mandalorian and Grogu. Plus, it would fit well with the story, especially since The Super Mario Bros. Movie hinted at a future villain and ‘evil forces,’ making Kirby a logical addition moving forward.
If a sequel to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is in the works and features a bigger threat, bringing Kirby into the story would make a lot of sense. Hopefully, that’s what the filmmakers are planning, as it’s definitely time for this popular Nintendo character to finally star in a movie within this franchise.
As a huge fan, I was so excited to spot the little nod to Kirby in The Super Mario Bros. Movie! It wasn’t a big moment, but seeing Luma clearly inspired by Kirby was a really fun Easter egg, and for now, that’s enough to satisfy my craving for some Kirby representation!
