Director James L. Brooks Gives Rare Update on Jack Nicholson

Working with Jack Nicholsonis as good as it gets.

That’s the opinion of writer and director James L. Brooks, who has worked with the actor for almost thirty years. Brooks even directed him in two of the performances that won him Oscars: in Terms of Endearment and As Good as It Gets.

I’ve been following Jack Nicholson’s career for years, and it’s been a while since we’ve seen him on the big screen – his last role was in James L. Brooks’ How Do You Know back in 2010, with Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd. But I’m hearing from a source close to James that they’re still very connected with Jack, and James actually has some interesting thoughts about what’s next for the legendary actor!

James expressed confidence that the individual will return to work, telling TopMob News at the Los Angeles premiere of Ella McCay on December 9th that he hopes to work with him again.

Jack Nicholson has largely stayed out of the public view, except for occasional appearances on his daughter Lorraine’s Instagram. However, James has repeatedly expressed his hope to see the famous actor, known for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, return to movies after a 15-year break.

I seriously can’t stop picturing him getting that little itch and just having to scratch it! I was reading an interview with James from 2023 in People and he said, and I know he’s right, that this latest film isn’t going to be his last. I just know we haven’t seen the end of it, not even close!

He added, “That’s what I’m hoping for. He’s the man.”

James will always be thankful to Jack for being in his first film, Terms of Endearment, back in 1983. He says it was during filming that their friendship began, and Jack became one of the most wonderful people he’s ever known.

“I am in love with the guy,” he continued. “America’s in love with the guy. He’s a lovable guy.”

Okay, so Ella McCay is FINALLY coming out December 12th, which is all I’ve been thinking about, honestly! But, I’ve been keeping up with everything else coming to theaters too, just in case I need something to tide me over until then. Here’s what else has been released or is coming out in the next few months – you know, just in case you’re as obsessed with movies as I am!

Sydney Sweeney gives a stunning performance as she portrays boxing legend Christy Martin in this eagerly awaited biopic.
