NIS America recently revealed more details about their new action RPG, Kyouran Makaism, confirming it takes place in the same world as the Disgaea series.
The game got a brief overview during State of Play Japan:
You take on the role of Neuer, a mercenary hired by a princess to retrieve a very important pudding.
The game then takes you on an adventure where you can call upon enemies you’ve already beaten. You can use them to fight with you as allies, or harness their power as weapons.
Shunsuke Minowa, the director of Kyouran Makaism, recently told Dengeki Online that the game takes place in the same world as the Disgaea series.

According to Minowa, the upcoming game, Kyouran Makaism, is set in one of the ‘Netherworlds’ from the Disgaea series, as both games share the same universe. While the gameplay will feel familiar to Disgaea fans, the stories are separate enough that players new to the series can easily jump in and enjoy Kyouran Makaism.
As Minowa notes, these games have similarities, especially a love for extremely high numbers. Players can inflict millions of points of damage and characters can reach level 9,999 and even higher.
Okay, so the game is launching in Japan on January 29th, 2026, which is awesome! But honestly, I’m still not sure if we in the West will get it at the same time. I’m hoping to find out more details about a Western release soon, so I’ll keep digging!
